I’m Gerald, 45, and this route is my second home—rain, snow, sleet, fifteen years of it. Last week, something stopped me in my tracks.

The morning was freezing, the kind of chill that bites. I was bundled up, and the kids boarded with laughter and chatter.

“Get in fast, kids! This weather’s a menace!” I shouted, and they just laughed.

“YOU’RE SO SILLY, GERALD!” a tiny voice cried.

It was Marcy, five, with her pigtails swinging. “Ask your mommy for a better scarf!”

“Oh, if my momma were still here, she’d buy me a scarf even fancier than yours!” I replied, playing along.

Her laughter could melt any ice around my heart.

Driving this bus isn’t just a job; the kids’ daily antics keep me going. My wife still jokes, “Peanuts, Gerald! How’s this paying the bills?” Yet nothing beats the joy of helping these kids.

After each route, I check the bus. That’s when a faint sniffle caught my ear.

A boy sat quietly, refusing to move.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Not heading inside?” I asked gently.
He shook his head, hands tucked away. When he finally revealed them, my heart leapt.

My husband was just about to turn 40, and I wanted to make his day unforgettable.. To prepare for it, I told him I would be out of town on his birthday, and we agreed to celebrate on another day. On the evening before the big day, I pretended to pack my bags and leave for the airport when I actually just stayed overnight at my friend's house.
My husband always came home from work around 6 p.m., so I decided to invite all of his friends and family around 5 p.m. so we would have time to decorate. When the time came, we turned off the lights and hid behind the kitchen counter. As the key in the door started turning, I held my breath with excitement. We heard the door open, and then, there was a woman's voice.
My heart dropped; for a second, I thought my husband was cheating on me. But when they turned on the lights, the whole room gasped. Keep reading below

My neighbor egged my car after I parked in front of his Halloween setup, so I gave him a "gift" he'd never forget. I was a nurse, drained from a brutal 12-hour shift the night before Halloween.
The driveway was blocked yet again by my landlord’s truck.
At nearly midnight, I parked my car in the only spot left, right outside Derek’s house.
The next morning, I went out to find my car smeared with smashed eggs, yolks oozing down, and shells everywhere. A path of eggshells led straight to Derek’s front door.
I knocked, and Derek answered, his face beaming with smug satisfaction.
"Derek, did you do this to my car?"
He shrugged and said, "Yeah, you parked in front of my house. YOU'RE BLOCKING MY HALLOWEEN DISPLAY."
Keeping my cool, I replied, "You egged my car just for parking here? I’m a single mom with three kids. I needed to load groceries and a stroller."
He smirked, "NOT MY PROBLEM! My guests need a clear view. Maybe you'll learn next time."
I forced a smile and walked off.
An idea hit me right away.
At Derek’s Halloween party, I surprised him with a GIFT.
He ripped open the box, eyes bulging in horror, and screamed loud enough to wake the neighborhood: "OH GOD, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!"
