Read this slowly, these iobs WON’t exist in 24 months. During the industrial revolution, something happened, man-power was replaced with machines. It used to take dozens of workers to produce the same amount of fabric that one machine could.
For example, the spinning Jenny allowed one person to operate several spools at once, this multiplied production speed but reduced the number of workers needed
During the industrial age, all you have to do was go to school, graduate and jobs was already waiting for you. That was when going to school became a fancy delight but that time is over.
Now, artificial intelligence or digital age is doing the same thing, nothing new. Just like the industrial era, manual laborers lost jobs, many were worried and unhappy. But in the same breath, others found new KIND of jobs.
I love AI and the digital age and I have spent the last three years into looking at the pros and cons of it. The most worrisome aspect is that during the industrial age, only man-power was replaced with machines.
But digital age is replacing both man-power and the intellect. Take note of this as you continue reading.
So yesterday, I wrote that except you’re going to school to study to become a Doctor or nurses, going to school is a waste of time and resources. But some people still couldn’t understand that simple post because they only see things on the surface.
During the industrial era, jobs that were routine in nature, like Quality assurance job, Data entry, seating in front of a computer job, accounting, typing things in certain order were created. This was the era women began flooding the work force because now it’s no longer about physical strength but intellect.
To put that into perspective
1. All those jobs mentioned above that typically revolves around repetitive tasks are easy to standardize and automate.
2. Since AI will do the work of several people at once, companies only need to hire few MANAGERS to oversee this work. Meaning companies will hire less employees.
AI is relacing both human power and intellect, a computer can remember what 8 billion people combined together can remember which will increase productivity, speed but reduces the number of workers needed to be employed.
Now, there’s this fallacy that AI or digital age will create more jobs but that’s not true. There’s a difference between AI creating NEW KIND of jobs and increase in number of jobs. AI is creating new kind of job but that’s doesn’t mean more jobs.
I used worked as an Epic consultant where we teach Doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals on the EMR systems in the US. It will be easier for younger generation to adapt especially those who already have a background in tech but a whole group of people will lose their job and will never be able to find a new one.
So before you go to school to spend years and resources make sure you are not going for obsolete degrees.
