Leadership isn’t about squeezing results out of a team—this is what coaching youth basketball taught me.

An invaluable lesson: leadership is about positioning individuals along a path where they can truly manifest their talents.

Some might argue, 'That’s too time-consuming.' But investing in people is always worth it.

When I first started coaching, I focused on drills and outcomes. I grew frustrated when the kids didn’t execute drills with the precision I expected. It forced me to reflect—if the answers weren’t coming from the team, they had to come from within.

Over time, I realized I was managing tasks and chasing results, but I wasn’t leading.

Leadership is about nurturing strengths, guiding each person to discover their potential. Leadership isn’t about control.

It’s a mistake to think that simply talking about goals is leadership. The failure lies in not defining a clear path to achieve them.

True leaders observe carefully, identify strengths, and create strategies that align individual talents with team objectives. Those who don’t—or can’t—position their team members effectively aren’t leading; they’re merely delegating tasks.

Management happens on game day, but the real work of leadership takes place behind the scenes.

Deep down, each of us seeks fulfillment from our work. We seek purpose. Finding either one is not easy. It takes time to figure out what exactly gives you that zest.

Once you figure it out, the next challenge is finding where to get it and how to get paid for it.

Chasing your dream job can be incredibly challenging, especially when you don't realize it's just within reach.

Here are some tips that can help you on your journey:

🌐 Networking: Connect with professionals in your field. Attend industry events, join relevant groups, and don't hesitate to reach out for informational interviews.

🤝 Mentorship: Find mentors who can provide guidance, share their experiences, and help you navigate your career path.

📚 Continuous Learning: Stay curious and keep learning. Take courses, attend workshops, and keep up with industry trends to stay ahead.

💪 Resilience: Embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. You might get only one interview after sending out 100 résumés. The important thing is to be open-minded enough to ask "why?" and learn from the experience.

Every challenge faced is a step closer to your goal. It’s tempting to wish for an easier path, but I hope you find the strength to keep moving forward. Your dream job is closer than you think.

🎓 Education: From high school to a doctorate, a specific degree is often a prerequisite.
👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Certification: RN, MD, CPR or even medical coding credentials – protect the patient by confirming that you meet specific industry standards and requirements!
💼 Skills: Whether hard or soft, your skills are the secret ingredient that will sets you apart from other candidates.
🌐 Experience: Relevant experience is much sought by recruiters, as it showcases your professional track record!

🔄 Path you choose in healthcare will dictate the necessary licenses, education, experience and skills.

As Talent Acquisition Manager, I would look at résumés with a focus on ensuring applicants meet the minimum requirements and then explore your potential through interviews.

As adults we forget wondrous marvel of being a child. Jaded to the miracle that life has the possibility to be. When I no longer wonder at a child's belief in Santa, magical reindeer and presents under the tree. That is when I am no longer right for this wonderful world.
