An important note regarding contracts this year:

When writing the date in 2020, write the year in its entirety. It could possibly protect you and prevent legal issues on paperwork. Example: If you just write 1/1/20, one could easily change it to 1/1/2017 (for instance) and now your signature is on an incorrect document.

For more than a year, some of the most powerful women in entertainment — including Amy Pascal, Kathleen Kennedy, Stacey Snider and a 'Homeland' director — have been impersonated by a cunning thief who targets insiders with promises of work, then bilks them out of thousands of dollars. After Amazon's purge of senior execs last week, what can you do to avoid stepping on the same landmine? It's simple, when you're hiring, do a deeper dive, and consult with industry insiders ... such as Brits in the Box!

"Many in the industry can spin a good yarn about their key role in making hit movies or shows, but those tales don't always withstand scrutiny. Only real insiders can see behind the curtain".

What's the longest shift you've ever worked?

Our Founder Jacqui Moore once worked 48 hours spent between an OB truck and an edit suite, and delivered 11 episodes to the network that weekend - some live, some as-live and some cut-downs. In order to keep everyone awake, she even arranged for cans of oxygen to be delivered to the edit suites and OB trucks. In her own words:

"It felt very rock and roll. But that was back when I was "young and fool" as my Jamaican Father would like to put it. It was fun, and I could get away with it".

Today BECTU published a report on the long-term effects of working long hours. To quote the report:

"The long-hours culture is a real danger for workers. It means that people suffer mental health problems, anxiety attacks, disrupted sleep patterns and poor emotional well-being – and strokes, heart disease and even cancer. People make mistakes that affect the quality of their work".

What's your story?

#metoo & The Heart Of Darkness In Film & TV

Sharing this excellent post from a UK based TV Director and friend of ours Ben Fuller. For guys who are feeling a little bit lost about what does or doesn't constitute sexual harassment ... Ben helpfully breaks it down.

Ask yourself:
* Have I ever promoted a man over a woman, because I’m more comfortable working with people who look like me?’
* Have I ever made lewd or patronising comments, directly or indirectly about a colleague, just because they happen to have breasts?’
* Have I ever let any of my male colleagues do any of the above and say nothing?’

If you can put your hand on your heart and say that all the above statements are true, well done. That’s a start. That’s what you, as a man, can do to try and change things. If not, then you are very much a part of the problem…

New law bans California employers from asking applicants their prior salary

How do you address gender and race wage inequality? You create a law banning employers from asking about your salary history. Well done California, let's hope the rest of the country rolls this out too. http://www.sfgate.com/business/networth/article/New-law-bans-California-employers-from-asking-12274431.php

California employers can no longer ask job applicants about their prior salary and - if applicants ask - must give them a pay range for the job they are seeking, under a new state law that takes effect Jan. 1. AB168, signed Thursday by Gov. Jerry Brown, applies to all public- and private-sector Cali...

Hi all, So I am on the lookout for a great all rounder filmmaker, someone based on NYC, some experience in lighting (mostly interviews) and managing the audio recording (wireless lapel mic and or shotgun on a boom). Probably someone in the doc and event scene. Jobs would mostly be corporate/interviews, some experience in event coverage would be super very useful as well (shooting b-roll of the event and some interviews). Ideally of course someone super reliable, experience and willing to get stuck in and help facilitate some stateside shoots for The Drum Magazine. I help manage the video production from the UK and would oversee projects along side an account manager/PA. If anyone springs to mind it would be great if you can pass on my details pls. [email protected] Thanks so much! Ps. We have a shoot coming up with high profile client soon (in next few weeks) so a bit of time pressure. Cheers, K
