🎬 LATINO ICONS, NUESTRA MANERA
This week, we honor: Pedro Almodóvar

Before q***r stories were mainstream, Pedro made them loud.
Messy.
Tender.
Unapologetically real.

He created space for characters who didn’t fit the mold—
and made them center stage.

Mothers, lovers, rebels, dreamers.
He taught us that emotion is not weakness,
that color is not noise,
and that q***rness is not a side plot.

Gracias, Pedro.
For giving us permission to feel too much—
and call it art.

LATINO ICONS, NUESTRA MANERA
Today, we honor: Celia Cruz

She wasn’t just the Queen of Salsa — she was the queen of showing up loud, bold, and full of sabor in every space that told her to shrink.

“Azúcar” wasn’t just a catchphrase. It was a way to survive.
A reminder that even when the world turns bitter, you bring the sweetness.

Celia taught us that style is resistance. That joy can be radical.
That the stage belongs to us — in technicolor, in wigs, in full voice.

Gracias, Celia. You sang us into our power.

Happy Monday, familia. New week, new energía.

Your reminder: Spanglish affirmations hit diferente. Hype yourself up, mix the idiomas, break the rules, porque you got this. Y si no… lo inventamos.

Some stories were never meant to fit the mainstream, and that’s exactly why we publish them.

Your English is Great, But… by José Martínez isn’t here to soften accents or explain survival to people who’ve never had to fight for it.

It’s a book for bilingual kids who were told to speak “better,” for first-gen voices erased from the syllabus, for communities expected to stay quiet.

This is storytelling on our terms. Loud. Bilingual. Unapologetic.

Now available on Amazon and VOZNYC.com, the bilingual memoir-in-essays explores what it means to belong when you’re constantly being told you don’t — especially in a country that praises survival but punishes difference.

“This is the most vulnerable thing I’ve ever written,” said José Martínez. “It’s for every kid who translated at the doctor’s office, for anyone who’s ever loved in Spanglish, or who’s ever been told they had to shrink to fit in.”
