The Brooklyn Book Festival is the largest annual literary event in New York City and features literary giants and emerging authors.

"The festival includes a week of 'Bookend Events' throughout the city. One such event was held on Friday 14, September called ‘A Force Of Nature - Writing A Hurricane’. The panellists included authors Carmen Bardeguez-Brown (#PuertoRico), Tiphanie Yanique (#StThomas) and Asha Frank (#AntiguaBarbuda). The panellists spoke about the effects of hurricanes #Irma and #Maria on their respective islands and people. All were in agreement that while the hurricanes ravished their respective countries, the political storms that followed left even more devastating effects. Ms. Frank read a selection of passages from her book ‘#DreamlandBarbuda’ and informed the audience of the Barbudans’ current fight to maintain their communal land ownership rights, which are currently being threatened to make way for foreign investors. The sponsors of this event include Friends of the Antigua Public Library - NY, Inc, Caribbean Cultural Theatre, CaribbeanReads, Read Jamaica, and The Riverbay Fund." Beverly George

Sounds like a really insightful event, thanks for sharing...
