Papercutz

Papercutz Discover Imaginative New Worlds 📚 in the 1970s through the founding of NBM, at a time when comics for adults were a rarity.

Inspired by the success of the graphic novel format in France, where one book in every five sold is a graphic novel, CEO and Publisher Terry Nantier decided to import this concept to the U.S. Becoming a leading indie comics press and one of the most highly respected houses in what has become known as “literary comics,” NBM has grown steadily ever since. In 2005, Terry recognized that the tides had

turned and children’s comics had become a rarity; he co-founded Papercutz to meet this need. Editor-In-Chief Jim Salicrup started his career as a teen at Marvel Comics under apprenticeship with Stan Lee. Jim, as a writer, and eventually an editor, was instrumental in producing Spidey Super Stories the first comic specifically designed for beginning readers. After editing such titles as The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the X-Men, and many more, Jim eventually became editor of their flagship Spider-Man line of comics where he relaunched the character in a bold new look and a new title that proved extremely popular, selling over three million copies. He went on to found a comicbook line at Topps by acquiring top licenses such The X-Files, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Jim later served as Senior Editor/Writer at Stan Lee Media before co-founding Papercutz, where he brings this devotion to popular storytelling and early literacy to our entire line. Jim recently won the 2011 CBG Fan Award for Favorite Editor. Associate Editor Michael Petranek grew up loving the comics work of several writers and artists he would eventually work with at Papercutz. After working for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Michael joined Papercutz in 2008 as an editorial assistant. In addition to his editorial duties, he letters the MONSTER series, several SMURFS comic strips, and the ARIOL series. He enjoys fighting crime with his cat, Robin. Marketing Director Jesse Post edited children’s comics for Disney Adventures and Comic Zone, the two best-selling comics magazines in the country, from 2005 until their closing in 2007. He went on to revitalize Disney’s North American licensed comics business as an account manager, launching several new series and expanding the children’s comics footprint at mass retail chains. The first thing he ever read in his life was Jim Salicrup’s Spidey Super Stories, and he strives to bring that same magic to kids today by spreading the word about Papercutz.

Happy Book Birthday (and actual Real-Life Birthday) to LEO DA VINCI: RENAISSANCE KID by Richard Ashley Hamilton, Marco Matrone and Dave Sharpe! Soar into your local bookstore today to experience Leo and friend's high-flying adventures!

Most people think of Leonardo Da Vinci as some old guy painting stuff hundreds of years ago…yet even Da Vinci was once a bold, troublemaking kid who craved adventure—this is his story! Young Leo has spent his childhood exploring art and engineering (and creepy caves) in the freedom of his hometown. But when his long-lost dad drags Leo to an apprenticeship far away, our boy genius soon finds himself out of his depth…and in a city on the brink of war! Fortunately, Leo also finds two new friends who change his life forever: Tano, a charmingly clumsy chum from Africa, and Filomena, a pre-teen patron who funds Leo’s latest inventions and always wears a mysterious smile—the smile which will inspire Da Vinci’s most famous portrait. Together, Leo, Filomena, and Tano uncover a deadly conspiracy that threatens the entire world…only nobody believes them, since they’re “just kids.” So Leo and his pals must grab everyone’s attention the only way they know how—with elaborate pranks that harness the true power of Art to open eyes and change minds. Equal parts Sherlock Holmes and Indiana Jones, Leo Da Vinci leaps out of history and into our hearts in an epic tale full of action, comedy, and full-color fun!

Happy Book Birthday to Matthew Dow Smith's AMELIA SHADOWS,available now! Step into the magic and mayhem with Amelia and friends at your local book shop today!👻 💀

Magic and mayhem collide in this fantastical new series! For fans of black cats and dark wizards!

Amelia Shadows has never had what you might call a “normal” childhood. For one thing, her dad’s the most powerful dark magician in the world. And for another, she’s spent her entire life in a house filled with ghosts and monsters and incredibly dangerous magical objects! As far as Amelia’s concerned, her life’s actually pretty cool.

When Amelia and her cat, Clara, aren’t having adventures or dealing with dimensional portals in the pantry, she’s learning to be a dark magician, just like her dad, with the help of a ghost tutor named Gustave. You’d think a ghost tutor named Gustave would be pretty fun, but he’s actually pretty boring.

And if a boring ghost tutor wasn’t bad enough, now Amelia’s dad has hired another ghost to oversee things, Hans. Which wouldn’t be that bad, except Hans has very strong opinions about how things should be around the house. This new head ghost has got to go, and Amelia may have a surprising ally…

Magic and mischief and a life lesson or two from Matthew Dow Smith, creator of DC’s Misfits of Magic and Maverick’s The October Girl.
