Beijing-based startup Noetix Robotics has introduced Bumi, a compact humanoid robot priced at approximately $1,400. Standing about 90 centimeters tall and weighing around 12 kilograms, Bumi is designed for educational and entertainment purposes. Demonstration videos showcase the robot walking and dancing, highlighting its potential for interactive learning experiences. The robot offers a programmable interface, allowing users to employ it for various tasks, including educational and creative activities. Noetix Robotics plans to open pre-orders later this year, aiming to make humanoid robotics more accessible to consumers.

Japan's HTV-X1 cargo spacecraft successfully launched to ISS

Japan’s space agency, JAXA, has successfully launched the HTV-X1, a new cargo spacecraft, to the International Space Station. The HTV-X1 lifted off atop the H3-24W rocket from the Tanegashima Space Center on October 25, 2025. About 14 minutes after liftoff, it entered its planned orbit and is scheduled to dock with the ISS on October 29, 2025, with Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui assisting in its capture and berthing.

The HTV-X1 is the successor to JAXA's H-II Transfer Vehicle, known as Kounotori, which completed nine missions to the ISS between 2009 and 2020. The new spacecraft can transport larger payloads, provide power during flight, and support cold storage for laboratory samples. It can remain docked to the ISS for up to six months and complete a three-month orbital mission afterward.

This launch marks the debut of the most powerful configuration of the H3 rocket, featuring four boosters and an enlarged fairing. JAXA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have called the mission a major milestone in Japan’s space capabilities. The H3 rocket, replacing the H-2A, is designed to be more cost-effective and reliable for future space transport.

China unveils desk-sized supercomputer that thinks like a human brain

Chinese researchers have introduced the BI Explorer (BIE-1), a compact supercomputer designed to mimic human brain functions. Unveiled in October 2025, it is described as the world's first "brain-like intelligent computing body."

About the size of a mini-fridge, the BIE-1 contains 1,152 CPU cores, 4.8 terabytes of DDR5 memory, and 204 terabytes of storage. It runs quietly at under 45 decibels and uses roughly one-tenth the power of traditional supercomputers, making it suitable for standard office or lab environments without special cooling.

The system’s Intuitive Neural Network architecture combines numeric, symbolic, and logic-based computations. This allows it to process multiple types of data at once while showing the reasoning behind its outputs, avoiding the “catastrophic forgetting” seen in traditional AI.

Performance tests showed BIE-1 training on tens of billions of tokens in just 30 hours on a single-node CPU setup, with training and inference speeds rivaling large GPU clusters. The design reduces hardware costs by about 50 percent and energy use by up to 90 percent compared to conventional supercomputers.

The internet once crashed because of a typo.
In 1997, a small typing mistake in a software update caused a major internet outage that disrupted millions of users. This incident highlights how fragile global systems can be — even a tiny human error can ripple across the digital world.

Honey never spoils.
Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still edible. Honey’s low water content and acidity prevent bacteria from growing, giving it an eternal shelf life. It’s nature’s sweetest natural preservative.

Black holes can slow down time.
According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, the immense gravity near a black hole bends space-time. To an outside observer, time appears to slow for anything close to the event horizon. This isn’t science fiction — it’s a real effect proven by physics, showing how strange the universe truly is.
