This is an MDU that during my career was always troublesome.

The tap was on the roof of this nursing home where two RG-7 drops fed down each hallway from the tap and then into these MDU's on each side of the hall.

The other side of the hall rarely had any issues, but this side was always a disaster.

This picture was taken after sending two techs to do their best to equalize outlets that fed this side of the hall, as several EMTA's had consistently been dropping offline, but only on this side of the hall.

As you can see a unity gain amplifier was installed with jumpers feeding 4way and 8way splitters, along with all connectors replaced.

I went out and checked their work several hours later and ran an ingress scan. The ingress was off the screen! I spent some time and isolated the outlet causing the issue and it was marked 125B. I reconnected all the outlets and had a good clean return path. I checked the EMTA's on that side of the hall and the SNR on them all had improved drastically.

I went down to room 125B with the maintenance man and noticed a white pre-made jumper wrapped around this residents bed. I walked over to the wallplate and the jumper fell out of the barrel when I barely touched it. I removed the plate, changed the connector and the jumper and went back to the utility closet to recheck the ingress on this outlet. It was clean as a whistle!

From this point on we rarely got a call on this side of the hallway at this nursing home. Everything was performing properly.

The morale of this story is that knowledge is power. I was very efficient when it came to troubleshooting. I had been educated and took my training time seriously. Obviously the techs that had been sent out there had not. I made a repair in under 45 minutes that two techs spent nearly 3 hours at replacing everything and did not correct. Take time to educate yourself. Take training in your career seriously. It really can make you more productive in your day to day tasks.

Placing MOCA filters at the ground block: 1) Drop > ground block > filter > POE 2) Drop > filter > ground block > POE 3) Drop > ground block > POE > filter (at first split or in line to device) Which way do you do it and why? (I have a personal preference based on past experience, but I'm just trying to see how others do it.)
Help me understand???
Check your grounds, Techs!!!!
