Josée Bisaillon’s newest illustrated picture book is here!

Rewriting the Rules: How Dr. Kathleen Friel Created New Possibilities for Brain Research and Disability — Illustrated by Josée Bisaillon, written by Danna Zeiger, and published by Lerner Books.

Josée’s distinct collage and mixed-media style is a great fit for narrative nonfiction picture books, balancing a soft, lyrical quality with powerful emotions.

Rewriting the Rules is a nonfiction picture book about Kathleen Friel, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age. As Kathleen grew up, she found her own creative methods of overcoming challenges to make her way through the world. She went on to become a neuroscientist investigating how injured brains can build new connections, rewriting the rules for disability treatment.

Happy Publication Day to BEFORE I LIVED HERE, Illustrated by Victo Ngai, written by Stacy S. Jensen and published by Neal Porter Books / Holiday House.

The building you live in has probably been around longer than you, so you may think it’s been there forever. But no matter where you live, a whole lot happened before your home was built.

Before I Lived Here reminds us that history isn’t something that happens far away, to other people—it’s in our own backyards.

This week we're spotlighting Till Lukat, an illustrator and comic artist originally from Berlin who now lives on a boat in the harbor of Bristol, UK.

His lifestyle illustrations for editorial and book projects use bold-yet-harmonious color palettes, playful compositions, and the occasional touch of humor.

We're pleased to welcome Evgenia Penman to Morgan Gaynin!

Evgenia is a London-based illustrator with a lighthearted, cheerful style and a special love for storytelling through pictures. She made the leap into children’s book illustration after a career in advertising, bringing with her a strong sense of visual communication and playful design. Through a combination of traditional and digital media, Evgenia's candid, hand-drawn style highlights the pure silliness, exploration, and fun of childhood.

Happy publication day to NO MORE CHAIRS, illustrated by Susan Gal!

No More Chairs is a story about a teacher who made a lifelong practice of inclusion after a childhood encounter with racism. Susan Gal partnered with Little Brown Books For Young Readers and author Dan Gill to tell this true story of bravery and belonging.

⭐ “This potent story reminds those with privilege that they can—indeed, must—take a stand….Gal’s scribbly mixed-media illustrations are a visual feast, using richly saturated colors to emphasize emotion. An affecting and moving conversation starter on what it means to be an ally—and a friend.”― Kirkus Starred review

Photo collage illustrator Beatriz Ortiz often uses botanical elements in her designs, resulting in a lush, decorative and vintage-inspired look. Thus, her style was perfect for these recent stories about the study of nature.

1) For California Magazine, Beatriz illustrated an article about iNaturalist, a Berkeley-born app functioning like a digital crowdsourced field notebook and leading to one of the largest biodiversity datasets on Earth.

2) Beatriz also illustrated the cover of the most recent issue of American Scientist, highlighting a story on the "Ecoacoustics of Forests". Sound can be a hugely important source of data about ecosystems—but first it has to be reliably recorded.
