🥣🌈 Lucky Charms, Trix and other General Mills cereals are getting a major ingredient change.

General Mills says all of its U.S. cereals are now made without certified colors, replacing synthetic color additives with alternatives as part of a broader reformulation effort. The company says 90% of its U.S. retail portfolio has now completed the transition, with the remaining products targeted for reformulation by the end of 2027.

The shift comes as food companies face growing consumer and regulatory pressure over petroleum-based synthetic dyes. In February, the FDA announced steps to support companies moving toward naturally derived alternatives, while HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has publicly pushed for reducing petroleum-based food colors.

But there's an important distinction: the FDA still says approved color additives are safe when used according to its regulations. The agency says most children show no adverse effects, although some evidence suggests certain children may be sensitive to color additives.

🇺🇸 The fight over SNAP eligibility is getting heated—but the facts matter.

Undocumented immigrants have never been eligible for SNAP under federal law. Current rules instead determine eligibility for U.S. citizens and certain lawfully present noncitizens who also meet income and other requirements.

New York Attorney General Letitia James sued the Trump administration over federal guidance that would further restrict SNAP eligibility for certain lawful permanent residents and other legally present immigrant groups. Her office argues those restrictions go beyond what Congress authorized.

The Trump administration, meanwhile, has pursued tighter eligibility and verification requirements, arguing that taxpayer-funded benefits should not go to people who are ineligible.

So the real policy dispute isn't whether undocumented immigrants should receive SNAP. Federal law already says they cannot.

The debate is about which lawfully present immigrants should qualify, how eligibility should be verified, and how far federal restrictions should go.

Those are questions worth debating—but they deserve facts, not slogans.
