Remembering GARY THAIN (RIP) on his birth date.
born Gary Mervin Thain - Christchurch, New Zealand (15 May 1948 – 8 December 1975).
Bassist, vocals, songwriter: Champion Jack Dupree (1969), Keef Hartley Band (1969-72), URIAH HEEP (1972-75).
He also appeared on Miller Anderson's "Bright City" (1971) and Ken Hensley's "Proud Words On A Dusty Shelf" (1973).
A highly respected and influential bass player. Very melodic.
During a 1974 US Uriah Heep tour, Thain survived a near electrocution onstage and was seriously injured. Combined with his drug addiction, his playing abilities greatly diminished
Management considered him a liability, and he was fired from Heep in early 1975.
Thain died of respiratory failure due to a he**in overdose in 1975 (aged 27).
