There's still time to catch soprano Ellie Dehn and baritone David Pershall in San Francisco Opera's wonderful production of Manon. Streaming tonight until midnight!

She looked up to their furs, their jewels, their high-society ways — and now, Manon has joined them on the arms of Paris's powerbrokers, courtesan to French noblemen and ministers.

Director Vincent Boussard doubled as costume designer on this production of Jules Massenet's "Manon," and he sampled from past and present to create looks that would scream luxury and sex appeal. Congratulations to Joshua Blue, Tenor on receiving the first Lotos Foundation James McCracken and Sandra Warfield Opera Prize! The award is given to a deserving singer selected by a nominator. The beloved Metropolitan Opera star Marilyn Horne has graciously agreed to serve as nominator for this year's prize, naming tenor, Joshua Blue, as the award's inaugural recipient. Mr. Blue is currently in his second year as a Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist with the Washington National Opera. He was a semi-finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2018. Mr. Blue earned his bachelor's degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and graduated from The Juilliard School with a master's degree, studying voice with Dr. Robert C. White, Jr.

The Lotos Foundation, with a philanthropic mission of encouraging and supporting the creative arts and sciences, will bestow eight grants to in-school and after-school programs across New York City, as well as award six monetary prizes to creative artists at the outset of their careers across a broad spectrum of the arts. This year’s awards include a new prize, The Lotos Foundation James McCracken and Sandra Warfield Opera Prize, honoring the late internationally-acclaimed American tenor and mezzo-soprano. Ms. Warfield and Mr. McCracken, who were married, were both mainstays at the Metropolitan Opera. In its obituary of Mr. McCracken, the New York Times stated he was, “The most successful dramatic tenor yet produced by the United States and a pillar of the Metropolitan Opera during the 1960s and 1970s.” The Lotos Foundation was established in 2000 by the leadership of the Lotos Club, which was established in New York City in 1870 as a Literary Club and has since grown to embrace all the creative arts and sciences. The Foundation pursues the philanthropic mission of encouraging and supporting the creative arts and sciences. The Lotos Foundation is committed to encouraging gifted students in the Fine and Performing Arts and Sciences in New York City through grants to in-school and after-school programs across the city’s diverse populations and neighborhoods, as well as awarding six monetary prizes to creative artists at the outset of their careers across a broad spectrum of the arts.

A special tribute for Frederica Von Stade. Congratulations on this benchmark anniversary with The Metropolitan Opera.

Congratulations to mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, who made her Met debut on this day 50 years ago as the Third Spirit in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She sang a program of Strauss, Heggie, Poulenc, Rorem, Mahler, Sondheim, and more with pianist Albert Guinovart. The legendary mezzo-soprano also gave master classes today with young singers. Congratulations Hera Hyesang Park and Jarrett Ott on their performance with New York Choral Society of the Brahms “Requiem”: “Soprano Hera Hyesang Park and baritone Jarrett Ott were stellar without grandstanding in their respective turns: Park in the lovingly maternal fifth movement that Brahms wrote after his mother’s death; Ott in the third and sixth movements, the former all earthly repentance and the latter brimming with hope for redemption. Ott’s bracing first turn, beginning with “Lord, teach me/ that I must have an end,” was a fresh spark after the too-relaxed pastoralism of the second movement.” Read more here: https://newyorkclassicalreview.com/2019/11/visions-of-mortality-by-ticheli-and-brahms-vie-in-new-york-choral-society-program/.

Congratulations Ying Fang on your Lyric Opera of Chicago debut! “All three of the women are fine singers.... The revelation here, though, is Chinese soprano Ying Fang, who, in her Lyric debut, displays all the qualities needed for a major career. She possesses an appealingly natural stage presence and charmingly conveys the waifish innocence and allure of Zerlina. Perhaps most impressive, though, is her singing. With a nuanced, translucent and often transfixing voice, Fang is able, even in her softest moments, to powerfully project even in the vast expanse of the theater.” Read the full review here: https://chicago.suntimes.com/2019/11/15/20966948/don-giovanni-review-lyric-opera-chicago-robert-falls-lucas-meachem. Flashback Friday! I’m still floating from the wonderful experience last summer that was singing in Le Roi Arthus. Gorgeous Chausson and such a fun cast, it really was a high on many levels.

Here with wonderful tenor Matthew White. Boy is it helpful to be comfortable with the person you have to do an intimate scene with! Matt is as nice a person as he is a singer and I felt lucky to work with him. Enjoy some French opera rarely heard and rarely performed.
