Manuka honey and slippery elm are the ultimate pairing for soothing an inflamed gut lining and for protecting the mucosa helping to reduce the inflammatory response in the body when it comes to gastrointestinal flareups or gastrointestinal discomfort. The Manuka is the gold standard for healing honey: this is why hospitals use it. MGO (methylglyoxal) is a very powerful compound that can last longer than traditional honey in the body in the tissues to fight against over 60 different strains of bacteria, including h. pylori, staphylococcus, and E. coli— this is no ordinary, honey. Along with manuka’s powerful anti-bacterial action, Slippery elm is a mucilaginous herb that creates a gel like substance called mucilage, which can put a protective barrier over the gut lining and helped to increase the healing response and reduce the inflammatory response. While the slippery Elm is working on the outside, the Minooka honey is working underneath it and sticking around even longer be cause of slippery elm protective effects. It’s like the “golden gut elixir”. This is very soothing for sore throats as as well as acid reflux. All you need is warm water, about 1 teaspoon of slippery elm powder, and 1 teaspoon of Manuka honey. Stir until blended and sip. It’s tasty and soothing. We don’t want to add harsh protocols on top of flareups— this is all about soothing, protecting and healing. This is the direction that people need to go when they’re having this inflammatory response. So many try to overdo it. You may want to try this pairing next time you have a flareup. This is not medical advice and I’m not a medical professional. (It is best to use slippery Elm a few hours spaced out from any medication’s that you may be on as it could interfere with absorption because of the thick gel) # #
