A Russian drone hit the Oleksiy Shovkunenko Kherson Regional Art Museum early on August 20, burning the wing of a building whose art Russia had looted during its 2022 occupation of the city.

The strike set fire to the building's right wing and nearby utility structures, the museum said in a Facebook post. Debris from the drone was found at the site.

Firefighters brought the flames under control but worked under the threat of further attacks, the museum said. They cut through the ceiling between floors to reach smoldering pockets that kept flaring up.

The museum, whose collection Russia looted in 2022, called the fire a war crime.
