DARKNESS IS COLORFUL
PHOTOGRAPHY by MARTA BLUE (@marta_blue)
“The photographs of this project were taken between 2017 and 2020. They are the prelude to a new project that I am developing in these months and which will have mental health as its main theme. This is an introspective journey in which I compare my emotions and try to bring out my fears. “Darkness is colorful,” for me, is a collection of emotions, passing from death to seduction. I tried to convey specific sensations through visually simple and well-defined images. I decided to combine dark and profound themes such as loneliness, abandonment and fear, with sparkling colors, glitter and colored lights. Because the intention is always to bring out the contrast between what is real and what you want to make believe is real. All the images I made are designed, they are all constructed, there is nothing captured or random. And there is always a specific intention to provoke an emotional reaction or a memory. My work, especially in this project, is a constant research on themes filtered by the power of our memories and the effect they have on people. I tried to filter delicate and intimate topics with images with very strong references because I would like people to be rewarded visually, but also to recognize themselves in certain situations or emotions.”

PREMIERE: Natalie Moses (@clubnatalie) — “Windy Vanity.”
Lee Phillips (@c.har.lee) writes, “There’s no better way to describe Natalie Moses’ latest single than it’s own title, “Windy Vanity,” other than maybe “rainy mania.” With haunting vocals over a trap beat, the Queens native perfectly encapsulates a feeling we all know too well: being crazy stuck on someone and the inability to shake it.”
Head over to www.10011mag.co to watch the official music video and read the full review.
A portion of proceeds raised by the bandcamp release are being donated by Moses to two community orgs. The first is the Herbal Mutual Aid Fund (@yves_______ & @goodwitch.nyc), founded by Yves and Good, which provides free herbal care to black folks. The second is founded by Natalie Moses herself. Court Square Justice (@courtsquarejustice), is an initiative started to organize the Queens community in the fight for Black lives.
New interview with Dittmer Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago, Hendrik Folkerts (@hendrik_folkerts), is now live on the website.
“Art, even though I wasn't raised with it at all, was always, always my interest. As a child of eight or nine I had a sort of museum in my backyard. By high school I was busy with art classes, but not necessarily making art. More observing art. Art history had really grabbed my interest, and that's why I decided to study it at the University of Amsterdam. I really started with seventeenth century Italian art. That's still a big love of mine, actually. That first love that you never forget in your life. Contemporary art, modern and Contemporary art, really, opened up a lot of doors to not only start thinking about art in our own time, or recent times, but also opened the door to my interest in the intersection of theory, art, and philosophy. Twentieth century art certainly knows that kind of entanglement. The possibilities in modern and contemporary art are so expansive, I really enjoy the freedom and openness that comes with that.”

“NeueHouse is proud to partner with @Fotografiska to present Infamous – an exhibition by artist Andres Serrano at NeueHouse Hollywood. The exhibition untangles the long history of deeply rooted racist culture, taking on years of race-baiting in America with a reductive and often virulent portrayal of Black Americans.
In this exhibition of 30+ photographs of racist artifacts, Serrano continues to hold a mirror to our nation’s recent, dark past. On the exhibition, Director of @LAXART Hamza Walker shares “the breadth of materials illustrates the height of white supremacy’s horrors to the depths of its pervasiveness."
The exhibition will be held at NeueHouse Hollywood, and will be open to the public from September 28th – October 6th. Head over to NeueJournal to purchase tickets and watch an intimate portrait of Andres Serrano where he discusses his motivations, previous body of work and the importance of exposing America’s difficult past. // Photo by @trephoto”

Art consultant and curator Anwarii Musa (@a__musa_) is best known as the driving force behind New York-based advisory firm ArtMatic. Since he founded the firm in 2014, Musa has built a vast network of private collectors and corporate clients, bringing them together with galleries and institutions to enhance their collections, facilitate pop-up exhibitions, and produce public installations.
His most recent project, Voices, at Studio 525 (@studio525nyc) in Chelsea, "foregrounds the narratives that have encompassed Black beauty in America and throughout the world," according to Musa. Showcasing more than a dozen artists, the exhibition presents a sweeping survey of the modern Black voice, featuring both highly established artists like Derrick Adams, alongside relative newcomers like Steve Sweatpants. Proceeds from the sale of works from the exhibition help support the Black Artist Fund (@blackartistfund).
Musa sat down with 10011 Magazine to talk about his firm, his early days in the art world, and what it means to be an art advisor at a turning point in modern American history.

Nostalgic Futurism. One must respect tradition to move forward in the advancement of humanity. Echoing from this philosophy, we document Atlanta’s transformative cultural renaissance through romantic lenses never seen with before.
Five Points Train Station was the place of capture. In the heart of Atlanta, a brutalism structure awaits. Behind these monolithic concrete walls, is where the origin story of Mairig Fesshaye, designer operating under EUKONO begins.
The upcycled garment showcased was designed around Rice’s mystique with the sustainable use of post-production fabric cuts for the final garment. Layers of scrap velvet, gabardine, and silk that would have been discarded in a landfill were instead transformed into an angulating silhouette. A sustainable Eukono mantra rings, “Deadstock, new life”.
