DAY 37: ‘No one is too serious for a pair of bunny ears’

This mission is a hell of a rollercoaster but boy does it feel great when things are going well.

We’re a little damp and cold (especially at night) but turning watts into knots very effectively over the past couple of days & it looks set to continue.

A cool 68 mile day today in some very rough conditions, can’t complain.

In other news I managed to oversleep by 15 minutes last night, got out for my 02:30 shift at 02:45. Absolutely shattered. Nutty was very forgiving (once I gave him back the 15 minutes 🤣).

DAY 26 - Chinese Water Torture

I’ve spent 36 hours inside the bow cabin at the time of writing this. Feel like a kid on the naughty step. How foolish I was to ever lack gratitude for anything. Plenty of time to reflect on my indiscretions.

I had no idea how wildly irritating cold water condensation dripping from the ceiling onto my bare legs at irregular intervals could be.

Everything is wet.

The occasional smack into the side of my head from gallons of North Atlantic seawater on the other side of this fibreglass makes a hell of a noise.

My mind has a weirdly effective mechanism for changing the point of reference at times like this though.

Yes I’m in a tiny stuffy cabin, eating 1500 cals of disgusting rations, In definite need of a shower, and only leaving the cabin once a day and risking it in the storm to go to the toilet and fill up my water bottle.

But it could be way worse, and hundreds of my ancestors had it way worse. We’re all so soft these days.

This is much easier than WW1 trench warfare.

Looks like we’ll lift the parachute anchor in the next few hours and start romping towards the UK again soon.

I feel like every time I wish I was back on land, Mother Nature hits us with a storm, so I don’t wish I was on land… very much

Looking forward to the next 20+ days…

Day 8: The Body is Hurting 8 days on the bounce of rowing for 12 hours & only sleeping for 5 hours is taking its toll. Yesterday’s night shift was particularly humbling, it doesn’t matter how you feel when your options are row or die. The Gulf Stream has let us down over the last 24 hours, we’ve had to dig in insanely hard just to keep up a speed of 2.5 knots. We’re pushing due east now and hoping the elements are kind to us again soon. 35 degrees Celsius for 4 days on the bounce is not what we expected, hence the towels over the legs. In other news we all jumped into the ocean yesterday to cool the body temperatures and rinse off with soap and fresh water. (On a daily basis we are using wet wipes if you were wondering) This wash took 20 minutes so we can’t afford to waste time like that much more than once a week. Morale still high with everyone on the boat, despite all starting to feel a little battered. 410/3000 Nautical miles completed.

Day 5: 10ft swell & sunburn struggles

The days are slowly starting to merge into one. Still working south easterly to meet the so far elusive Gulf Stream. We should have hit it by the time this post goes live.

Watch our tracker to see us absolutely sending it north easterly very soon if not already.

Some huge swell last night, slowly getting the boat ‘capsize ready’ as we work our way through the rations. I’ll try and capture some of the mad conditions next time they happen, while not dropping the go pro into 1000m+ of abyss.

Searing relentless heat on days four and five, good for drying underwear, bad for pale British men.

Things are going overwhelmingly well so far. All fairly well adjusted to 3x2hr sleeps now. Crew all in good physical condition… onwards and eastwards 📈
