ABOUT

OneTwoSeven is a collaboration between Musician/Producer Graham Hawthorne and Engineer/Producer Charles Martinez. Located in historic Harlem New York, the mega-vibey, stone-walled space is unique among NYC facilities. Also, we are a destination facility for out-of-towners, offering lodging for up to 5 people - unprecedented in New York City. Everything at OneTwoSeven is designed to let the

music happen. From the crackling fireplaces, to the 100 year old stone walls, to the tasteful selection of modern and vintage instruments, audio gear, and microphones, the 127 experience is a seamless integration of all you could want in a recording/performance/video space. Whether you're recording, doing a showcase gig, or shooting a video, the emphasis is on capturing LIVE energy. Graham Hawthorne is one of the most highly regarded Drummer/Percussionists in New York City. A top call studio and live musician, he has played on hundreds of records, movie soundtracks and jingles. Charles Martinez is one of NYC's most dynamic recording engineers. A veteran of several years of touring and recording with Donald Fagen and Steely Dan, Charlie has the best board-side manner in the business - getting your music on tape with pristine detail and a minimum amount of fuss. Their long, fruitful relationship started when Charlie began working at Dangerous Music Studio - a studio that Graham built in the East Village, which became a destination for artists from Isaac Hayes to the Rolling Stones. The Harlem Townhouse which houses OneTwoSeven belonged to the I.B.P.O.E. from the mid 1950's until 127 acquired it in 2003. stands for International Brotherhood of the Protective Order of Elks - the African-American Elks. Among the many historic events which happened here were meetings of the ANC, social and political events attended by Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and company, and the formation and early efforts of the Black National Theatre. The legacy of that achievement, creativity and gravitas is in the air at OneTwoSeven

New Fender Rhodes at 127!

I just bought the best Fender Rhodes I've ever played or heard - a suitcase 88 mkII that still has the inspection tag on it from the factory; crisp action, incredible sound, all functions working 100%. It's a very rare find indeed. Here is a nice duel between Kevin Bents on our 1928 Steinway, and Shea Pierre on the new Rhodes. (This is a teaser for the upcoming HSO release btw)

I just bought the best Fender Rhodes I've ever played or heard - a suitcase 88 mkII that still has the inspection tag on it from the factory; crisp action, incredible sound, all functions working 100%. probably don't have to say anything about these for you drummers. they are simply put, the best tubs ever made. when it comes to drums, don't be fooled by fussy cosmetics, marketing gimmickry, mindless arbitrary innovation, or any of the other questionable bla bla bla of most of the other companies. GMS makes the deepest sounding drums ever made - by marrying the best of traditional drum-making with REAL innovation - the bass drums in particular will blow your mind. AND they look fantastic - best finishes in the business, classic hardware, hand made beauty....

General information

ROOM The space is a 50' length x 18' width x 10.5' height stone walled room, with concrete/terrazo floors, a plaster ceiling, and lot's of wood soffits. It has full and flat frequency response with unprecedented brightness and detail - we challenge you to find a better sounding room in New York City! The default layout is an open plan studio - one large room, with 2 movable isolation rooms, and several other separation rooms. There is no closed control room unless you request. We have found that this promotes better, easier, faster music making. If you have a project that requires a conventional control room/studio configuration, it's a simple matter to move the control room into one of the isolation rooms. LODGING OneTwoSeven has accommodation for up to 5 people. There is a master bedroom (queen bed) suitable for two people, a queen loft bed suitable for 2 people, and a single room (twin bed). We also have a spacious professional kitchen and comfy studio lounge. Please enquire for rates. OneTwoSeven is available for your project hourly, daily, or weekly. Additionally we do flat rate rentals. Here are some examples. Please enquire for further details.
