Recovering a Fallen Propane Tanker: The Science ๐งช๐
It looks like a disaster, but itโs actually a safety measure. ๐ฅ๐
Crews on U.S. 64 are working to recover a gas tanker that fell down a steep embankment. But before they can move the wreckage, they have to empty the tank.
The Process: They are pumping the liquid propane into a recovery truck. To make this work without mechanical pumps, they use a "flare burn stand" to burn off the v***r. This lowers the pressure in the receiving tank, allowing the higher pressure from the wrecked tank to push the liquid over naturally.
Itโs a dangerous, slow process that can take a full day and night, but it ensures the tank doesn't rupture during the lift.
Question: Have you ever seen a controlled burn operation on the road? ๐
