Congrats Idanna and Terrance!
Here's what the New York Daily News had to say about "Black Africa White Marble":

"Brilliant! A riveting, powerful, beautifully made film. As history, as betrayal, as a family story with operatic twists and turns. This film has it all-and it is magical!" —Joanna Molloy, New York Daily News

Drop by BAMcinématek this Sat., May 25th for the premiere of "Black Africa White Marble", an amazing documentary, the companion film to the book "Brazza in Congo", by Idanna Pucci (Umbrage Editions). The film examines how Pucci made a stand against Republic of Congo President Sassou Nguesso, as he sought to move the remains of her ancestor, Pietro Savorgnan di Brazza (an explorer & spiritual leader for the Congo) to boost his own image. Stop by TONIGHT for the opening of photographer Pari Dukovic's first exhibition, "Burlesque". His study of burlesque, presents an innovative look at a naughty art form enjoying a new heyday. Fascinated by the “rebellious performances” within the New York burlesque scene, Dukovic captured the “…artists who take a piece of themselves and build a character in their fantasy world.”

Giacobetti Paul Gallery is in Dumbo at 111 Front Street on the second floor in Gallery #220. The best way to get there is the F train to the York Street stop, down the hill a block and left a couple of blocks. The building is at the corner of Front and Washington.

Art is the moment we take note, the moment we stop to consider the surface and all that lies beneath. Art empowers us to think for ourselves, to embrace the possibility of layers of meaning and experience cast upon and emanating from the image itself. When set singly, as a print hung upon a wall, th...

When Current Events Cast a Shadow

The Wall Street Journal covers Stephen Ferry's photography exhibit "Violentology":
"The pictures in this exhibition, and in the book from which they are drawn, are printed not on conventional photographic pap
er but on newsprint, and heavily inked as if from a tabloid."
"The pictures record killings whose perpetrators can only be alleged because the motives are unclear and the actual killers will never be known. Violence became so ubiquitous, so habitual, that historians and sociologists in Colombia coined the term "violentology" for its study."
