WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly described Thailand as the party that initiated renewed border tensions with Cambodia, according to remarks he made on Sunday.

Speaking during a ceremony announcing the production of a new class of large-scale warships, attended by senior defense officials including the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Trump responded to questions from journalists regarding the Cambodia–Thailand border situation.

In his comments, Mr. Trump stated that Thailand had “once again taken steps toward war” in its border dispute with Cambodia. He said he had raised the issue with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging diplomatic efforts to bring the conflict to an end.

Mr. Trump added that Mr. Rubio had previously been involved in resolving multiple international conflicts, but noted that the Thailand–Cambodia situation remained unresolved. He further claimed that tensions between the populations of the two neighboring countries were currently high, marked by deep resentment and hostility.

The remarks come amid escalating concerns over security along the Cambodia–Thailand border and growing international attention to the dispute.
