Google Chrome Will Automatically Block Annoying Ads

As everyone speculated, Google just confirmed it will include an ad blocker in Chrome in 2018. We at Uponit fully support this move and believe the guidelines of the Coalition for Better Ads, which Google is a member of, strike the right balance between users expectations for free, uninterrupted online experience and publishers' right to preserve their online ad revenue.

Chrome will also come with option that allows publishers to ask users for money in exchange for ad free experience.

Is Google's Chrome Going To Block Ads Or Not?

Speculations continue to swirl about Google's reported move to add a built-in ad blocker to Chrome. Were the rumors part of a tactic to intimidate ad blockers, or is this move going to lead to a big change in the industry?

Back on April 19, the Wall Street Journal reported that Google "is planning" to introduce an "ad blocking feature" for its Chrome browser. Since then, a rather conspicuous silence has prevailed.

Google's proposed ad blocker would follow ad industry standards, but whether it would block its own ads or force more creativity remains to be seen.

Stronger Privacy Laws Could Save Advertising From Itself

Big publishers and agencies can actually become stronger by the "cleanup" of the new privacy laws in the EU. More media buyers will be able to go through the direct sales channels. Quality of ads will be better, more contextual than behavioral, and less money will be transferred to middlemen.

More direct ads --> more money to publishers --> reduced number of ads on a page

Online advertising is terrible. But it doesn't have to be that way.
