Gavin Newsom says he would not run for president in 2028 if Kamala Harris decides to enter the race.

Newsom made clear that if Harris chooses to seek the presidency again, he would step aside rather than compete against her in the Democratic primary. He said he would not want to create a primary fight that could divide supporters and donors who overlap between the two California Democrats.

Newsom also described a potential Newsom-Harris contest as “mutual assured destruction” and said he would not want to “waste everyone’s time” by running against her if she decides to enter the race.

Harris has not announced a 2028 presidential campaign, so her decision remains open. Newsom has also not formally announced a 2028 presidential campaign.

For now, the situation is conditional: Newsom says he would not run if Harris runs. If Harris does not enter the 2028 race, Newsom’s plans could be different. The Democratic field for 2028 remains unsettled, with candidate decisions still to come.

The 2026 midterm elections will help shape the future direction of America. Donald Trump is not personally on the midterm ballot, but every House seat, dozens of Senate seats and major state offices are up for election. The representatives Americans choose will help determine whether his administration faces stronger oversight or gains more freedom to continue its policies.

Before casting your vote, look beyond the slogans and examine the record. Consider the cost of living, healthcare, immigration enforcement, democratic institutions, foreign policy, government transparency and the conduct of officials who place political loyalty above responsibility to the public.

Do not let fear, party identity or another campaign promise erase what you have already witnessed. This election is not about blaming every American for the country’s direction. It is about whether voters are willing to demand competence, decency and accountability from the people exercising power in their name.

America has another opportunity to choose its direction. Research the candidates, question the promises and reject blind loyalty. Choose representatives who are prepared to put the Constitution, the public interest and ordinary Americans ahead of personal political loyalty.

The most important question in adoption should always be: what serves the child’s best interests? Russia’s 2024 policy is sometimes presented as a ban on transgender people adopting, but the measure is broader. It restricts adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where legal gender transition is permitted. As a result, someone could be affected by the policy because of their country’s laws, regardless of whether they are transgender.

The United States should carefully consider the consequences before adopting a similar policy. Adoption decisions should focus on each applicant’s ability to provide a safe, stable and supportive home. Background checks, home studies, references, financial and personal assessments, and ongoing child-safety standards can help determine whether a prospective parent is suitable.

People who fail those requirements should not be approved, regardless of identity. At the same time, excluding otherwise qualified applicants solely because they are transgender would shift the focus away from individual suitability. A child-centered system should rely on evidence, proper screening and safeguards rather than automatically assuming that an entire group is unsuitable to become parents or guardians.

Protecting children requires strong standards and careful oversight. The central focus should remain the safety, stability and well-being of every child.

Tucker Carlson has made his support for Abdul El-Sayed increasingly clear, even while stopping short of a formal endorsement.

The conservative commentator strongly praised El-Sayed’s campaign and sharply criticized Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, saying he would not vote for Rogers “at gunpoint.”

Carlson also described parts of El-Sayed’s campaign message as “literally Trumpian,” particularly its focus on keeping American resources at home rather than supporting foreign wars.

He later defended El-Sayed over controversial comments about the aftermath of 9/11, arguing that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan caused enormous civilian suffering.

This is not a formal endorsement, but Carlson’s unusually strong support for a Democratic Senate candidate — combined with his rejection of Rogers — has created an unexpected political divide.

Mitch McConnell did address the 25th anniversary of 9/11, but his message came in a written statement rather than through a public appearance. He honored the victims, expressed sympathy for families who continue to carry the pain of that day, and called on Americans to give real meaning to the words “Never Again.” His message was solemn and appropriate for the anniversary.

But the timing also raises a broader question. McConnell has remained away from the Senate since suffering a fall in June that led to hospitalization and rehabilitation. He was discharged from rehab in August to continue his recovery at home, while no specific date for his return to the Senate was announced.

That makes the circumstances surrounding his 9/11 message notable. A written statement can honor those who were lost, but it does not replace a senator’s participation in votes, debates, and direct engagement with constituents. At the same time, McConnell’s health deserves compassion and privacy.

The fair criticism is not that McConnell ignored 9/11. He did issue a message. The question is whether his continued absence from the Senate is providing Kentucky voters with the level of active representation they expect from their senator.

RFK Jr. has accused Democrats of turning the federal government into what he described as “the biggest child-trafficking operation in world history,” citing the handling of unaccompanied migrant children during the Biden administration.

However, that sweeping accusation goes beyond what the available evidence demonstrates.

A federal watchdog found that immigration authorities had not issued court notices for about 291,000 children transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services from fiscal years 2019 through 2023, while another 32,000 missed scheduled hearings.

These findings highlight serious weaknesses in tracking children after they were released to sponsors, but they do not establish that all of those children were missing, trafficked, or knowingly placed with criminals.

Separate investigations have documented cases involving child labor exploitation, abuse, and unsafe placements, while shortcomings in sponsor screening have raised legitimate concerns.

Still, describing the entire federal system as a deliberate trafficking operation is a much broader political claim, and Kennedy did not provide evidence proving that characterization.

Protecting vulnerable children requires stronger oversight, accurate records, responsible placement, and prosecution of abusers — while keeping political claims grounded in verified facts.

Does this really amount to “taxation without representation”? Legally, no. Politically, however, it raises uncomfortable questions. Kentucky still has two elected U.S. senators and a congressional delegation, so this is not the same as the colonial era, when Americans had no elected voice in Parliament.

But representation means more than simply holding a Senate seat. Senator Mitch McConnell has reportedly missed numerous Senate votes while dealing with health-related issues. His office can continue assisting constituents, but staff cannot vote on legislation, nominations, spending measures, or other Senate business.

McConnell deserves privacy and compassion regarding his health. At the same time, Kentucky voters deserve clarity about his ability to fulfill the responsibilities of his office.

At what point does a prolonged absence become a public representation issue rather than a private health matter?

Putin is warning European leaders that sending troops into Ukraine could lead to direct war with Russia.

His latest warning comes as European countries discuss the possibility of deploying forces to Ukraine as part of future security arrangements. Putin says that putting European troops on Ukrainian territory would amount to “war with Russia,” while also insisting that Moscow does not intend to threaten European countries.

The warning does not mean that Russia and Europe are currently at war. Rather, it reflects Putin’s stated position on what could happen if European forces are deployed inside Ukraine.

European governments, meanwhile, argue that continued support for Ukraine is necessary to strengthen its security and deter further Russian aggression. Moscow views deeper Western military involvement as a move that could bring Europe closer to direct participation in the conflict.

That creates a serious risk of escalation.

Every new deployment, military strike, threat or retaliation can increase the possibility of miscalculation—and potentially widen a war that has already caused enormous destruction.

People can disagree over Ukraine, Russia or NATO while still recognizing how high the stakes are.

Russia and NATO countries possess thousands of nuclear weapons combined, making any direct confrontation between them an extremely serious global concern.

At a moment this dangerous, diplomacy cannot be treated as an afterthought.

Because if Russia and NATO ever entered a direct war, the consequences could extend far beyond the battlefield—and affect people around the world.
