On October 7, Hamas fighters killed Maoz Inon’s parents at their home in Netiv HaAsara, just 100 meters from Gaza. After that tragic day, Inon promised not to seek revenge but to pursue peace and healing.
“I cannot let this sorrow or loss control or predict my future,” says 51-year-old Inon.
Aziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian whose elder brother died from injuries sustained after being arrested and beaten by Israeli soldiers during interrogation in the First Intifada.
After October 7, Abu Sarah sent Inon a message offering his condolences. They were acquainted briefly years ago while working in the travel industry. This began a meaningful interaction between two individuals who witnessed the trauma of losing loved ones firsthand.
Together, they wrote ‘’The Future is Peace: A Shared Journey Across the Holy Land.” In January, they became the first Israeli and Palestinian to carry the Olympic torch together, showing the will of many who, according to them, support peace and reconciliation.
