Who Was the Teacher That Changed Your Life?
Yesterday, on our taping of
"Back to School - Unlocking Potential"
we welcomed a powerful full-circle moment.
Host Corinthia Benison of the Renaissance Center of Mastery returned with her former 6th-grade teacher — now a principal — to honor the quiet, enduring influence educators have on the souls they guide.
Their reunion reminded me how deeply teachers shape us.
Some we carry in memory; a rare few stay with us beyond the classroom.
Two educators marked my path:
– My 6th-grade social studies teacher, who taught me how to study and actually retain knowledge.
– And Mr. Roth, my 8th-grade sociology teacher, who saw me before I saw myself.
His recommendation opened the doors to Martin Luther King High School, and his lessons opened the doors to understanding people, society, and emotion.
I never stayed connected with most of my teachers.
But my children’s 5th-grade teacher
Ms. Kathleen Hart remains a steady presence in my life — a reminder that education is ministry in motion.
Statistics tell us children spend more waking hours with teachers than with parents.
No wonder their voices echo long after we leave their classrooms.
So I ask you:
Which teacher left a mark on your life?
