Israeli Finance Minister makes hardline remarks on Palestinian statehood and Oslo framework
Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has made strongly worded comments rejecting the idea of an independent Palestinian state, saying there is no possibility of a “middle solution” and framing the situation as a binary choice between the two peoples.
In remarks circulated in recent reports, he also called for the termination of the Oslo Accords framework and suggested that Israel should assert full control over the territory.
The statements reflect an increasingly hardline position within parts of Israel’s political leadership regarding the future of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. They are likely to draw significant international attention, particularly given ongoing tensions in the region and longstanding disputes over statehood, governance, and territorial control.
Critics are expected to view the comments as further deepening political divisions, while supporters of such positions typically argue they reflect security concerns and opposition to a two-state framework.
The remarks come against the backdrop of continuing debate over the viability of negotiated solutions and the future structure of governance in the region.
