Narcissists thrive on control.
They know exactly how to push your buttons, provoke reactions, and keep you emotionally hooked.
But what happens when their tactics stop working?

Here is how my mom silently took her narcissistic partner's power away.

1. Answer questions with questions.
Instead of defending yourself flip the conversation.
Narcissists use interrogation to trap you.
Respond with "Why do you ask?" or "What makes you say that?" It forces self reflection —
something they avoid at all costs.

2. Slow down your responses.
Narcissists manipulate through urgency.
The faster you react
the easier you are to control.

3. Use neutral language.
Emotion is their weapon.
When you stay calm and say
"That is interesting" or "I will think about it" you take away their fuel.
A narcissist cannot escalate if you refuse to engage.

4. Agree with their insults strategically.
If they call you selfish try
"Maybe you are right."
This shocks them because they expect resistance.
Without an argument to feed on they lose interest and move on.

5. Detach from their approval.
Their biggest fear is losing control over how you see yourself.
When their opinion no longer defines your worth
they lose all power over you.
Indifference is the ultimate disarmament.

My final thought: Narcissists cannot function without a reaction.
The moment you stop playing their game - they lose.
