I get the line saved some time and it was an advantage, but as a racer it’s not blatant cheating.
Common sense says if he believed it was, he wouldn’t have been taking it then. Same with the other riders.
It is televised.
It’s obvious he’s got some haters by the reactions!

Before calling it a “cut track,” it’s worth looking at the layout itself. There were virtually no clear markers leading into that section of the turn, with only a couple of boundary indicators positioned near the very top. From a rider’s perspective, it’s easy to see how the banner could have been interpreted as the actual track limit.

Whether you agree with the penalty or not, context matters. Split-second decisions happen at race speed, and situations like this are rarely as black and white as they appear in slow motion.
