I’m so excited to see all the caterpillars on the milkweed this year! 🐛🌿

Most of my tropical milkweed grew back after the frost, so if I understand it correctly, that winter dieback should have helped break the parasite cycle too. 🤞

It’s so fun seeing them all over the plants again! 🦋

A few people asked how we did the mulch around the chicken coop, so I figured I'd share!

We just cleaned up and roughly leveled the area, laid down cardboard, put the bigger rocks around the edges, and covered it all with pine bark mulch.

The mulch was only 2 bags for $7 at Ace Hardware, so it was a pretty inexpensive project. We used about 6–8 bags, but it'll depend on how much space you're covering and how thick you want it.

The cinder blocks are buried around the chicken coop. We also have the no dig fence pieces along the egdes of our coop since having a racoon dig in and kill 9 of our chickens on mothers day. We have been working hard to have a safe and pretty environment at the coops.

I'm really happy with how it turned out! 😊

We're making a little room for a new breeding project, so it's time to downsize our flock a bit! 🐔

I have 3 bantam laying hens looking for a new coop. They're about 1½ years old and currently laying. I also have a 2–4 month old bantam rooster available. He has not been integrated with these hens yet, so he'll likely need a slow introduction if you'd like to keep them together.
