I've had people mention prices a lot lately. I haven't seemed to have any issues as I feel like I have lower prices as a newer breeder.
However I have invested in trying to find the best, healthiest, correct color birds the best I have been able to. I haven't just bought a bunch of cheap birds to throw together.
I am trying to breed with intention. This takes money and time and effort.
When people want chickens at the price it cost to raise that chicken there is no point on selling it. There's no profit to keep our farm running, the feed, the cleaning supplies, the daily work put into these guys. Yes that is a LOT of work when it gets to being a bigger than a few birds breeding in the back yard.
I want to breed with intention. With SOPs in mind. Each year I learn more and more about making sure what I'm building is worth my time and people who buy from me.
Am I new at getting into some things?? Absolutely and my prices will reflect that. But as prices also rise for everything else needed to take care of a bird. The prices of birds go up.
We cannot sell our birds for next to nothing. I wouldn't tell any breeder how to price their birds. How they estimate and value out their prices is up to them and I will decide if it's in my range and if not thank them for their time.
Don't try to talk breeders out of their time and effort and money put into their birds. Just move on and say you'll pass. I certainly don't mind.
