One of the best feelings is losing your attachment to someone who was never meant for you.

I was once in a relationship built on a trauma bond. I carried my unhealed wounds into it. I projected onto them, and they projected onto me. I had an anxious attachment style, and they had an avoidant attachment style. It was a cycle neither of us knew how to break.

Eventually, I had to face a hard truth: I was the common denominator in my failed relationships—not because I was the only problem, but because I was bringing unresolved pain into every relationship.

Healing changed that.

As I worked through my past, I stopped confusing attachment with love. I no longer needed someone to fill wounds they didn’t create. And little by little, I was able to let go.

Detaching wasn’t easy. It took time, prayer, and intentional healing.

But on the other side of it, I found something I never had before: peace.

Sometimes the greatest act of self-love isn’t finding the right person—it’s becoming emotionally healthy enough to release the wrong one.
