Hi OSM members and friends,

We are having a very different and exciting Spring Media Day this year on March 26 from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The OKC Thunder is graciously hosting our event at the Paycom Center in downtown OKC.

The $20 registration fee gets students and teachers access to four amazing journalists/media professionals as guest speakers, vendors from yearbooks companies, journalism organizations, and colleges, and the kicker: a ticket to the OKC Blue's game that evening.

Speakers include Tevis Hillis from Oklahoma News 9, Jenni Carlson from the Oklahoman, the 2023 Pulitzer Center Ocean Reporting Fellow and independent reporter Alexandra Talty, and Clara Roark with OKC Thunder media relations.

We have a few tickets left for schools who are interested in coming but are not registered yet.

Spring Media Day 2024 is tomorrow on the OU campus! Note the change of venue from our usual spot—address on the flier. Teachers, take a look at lunch options if you haven’t already—we are on a different side of campus, not close to Campus Corner.

Can’t wait to see our OSM schools and award some scholastic journalism work! Student media is in bloom in Oklahoma, ya’ll!

Thank you, everyone who was at Fall Media Monday today! All the teachers, students, presenters, yearbook reps, volunteers--everyone!

So, I’ll need to verify with a few schools on attendance (since I cannot stop mixing up the Lawton schools—sorry guys!), but total attendance for Fall Media Monday was somewhere between 530-560. Seriously a stellar day post-lockdown. The energy was so upbeat. I was so happy to see so many happy faces today.

Remember, journalism is important! Scholastic journalism is important.

Fall Media Monday is back in person on Nov. 15! We are so excited to see everyone. And, we're close to pre-pandemic numbers, at nearly 600 registered!

OU encourages everyone to mask up when indoors and stay safe.

Let's do this!

OIDJ is back for 2021! The main difference in this year and previous years is OU is not allowing overnight stays for this summer, so we will operate more like a summer day camp.

Hi there,

If anyone is trying to get in to a session by Jen Bladen today for Spring Media Monday, her passcode is 247338, not the one we have in our program.

Sorry for this!

Hello teachers,

One of my colleagues has shared with me an opportunity you might be interested in for professional development and continued education this Saturday, hosted by Ga***rd College and NPPA. This free workshop has a variety of sessions relevant to journalism education ranging from virtual teaching tips to storytelling to photography and videography. I will be attending several of these sessions myself. You can sign up for all the sessions or just one, or any number between. I hope to see you there!

Best wishes to all--Melanie

Invite follows from Dr. Julie Jones:

Please share with everyone in OSM that the NPPA News Video Workshop is having a virtual day of training this Saturday.

We have included a Zoom session for teachers with OSM in mind. If it counts toward professional development, I am happy to write up whatever documentation your teachers would need.

Here is the schedule with embedded links to the registration forms and presenters' bios.

I anticipated a few questions your group may have:

1) While we would love to have OSM teachers here, but I would think twice before sharing it with high school students. The NPPA faculty are working journalists who present as working journalists. While they are professional, I cannot guarantee a curse-less environment throughout the day.

2) As a rule, we do not record any Workshop sessions. Presenters, though, are free to share their deck if they wish. It is on a case by case basis, but I am happy to ask if there are particular sessions to give the Workshop faculty a heads up on.

We hope you join us!
