This little Oak Treehopper Nymph was on my dinner napkin at lunch yesterday. I couldn't see his beautiful armor until I took a photo. It was so tiny, it's hard to believe this little thing even exists and to have such detail that you really don't see. This camera is amazing. I have a Google Pixel Pro.

Bee Barn Sherbet!! Just look at her!! In 2024 I planted every variety of Floret Flower Farm Dahlia seeds. This was a seedling from the Bees Choice Variety. The last two years she was nice but not like this first bloom. I had two tubers barely survive and I didn't even think they would grow so I am so excited to see this. I lost nearly all of my tubers over the last couple years because I am terrible at overwintering, and this one just keeps hanging in there despite me!! I hope I can keep her alive,.she just keeps getting better! 5 in. bloom on strong sturdy stems.

I collected all of my open pollinated zinnia seeds from last year, I had all varieties from Floret Flower Farm as well as a bright mix, two kinds from the queeny series and the Aurora and Ballerina from Johnny's. I have had such a great mix of Zinnias this year that came from them. I saved all the heads last year and just broke them apart and sprinkled them. I did the same with the Celosia mix, Sunflowers, Cosmo's, and Marigolds. Those got started a bit late so they are just getting ready to bloom. I can't wait! Three 70' rows of flowers only cost me my time.
Seed saving is $$$$!! Save those seeds!!

In a world of weeds....be a sunflower!

I love my overgrown section of weeds at the end of our property. We don't mow and let it do as it wishes. It has taught me a lot about gardening, and even life for that matter. It's all perception. If you believe things should be manicured and tidy you will look at it and think it looks terrible. I always used to. I used to hate it and I don't think the neighbor likes it. I only started doing it because it stays wet back there longer than everything else. We have to wait so long to be able to get the mower back there that it's all grown up by the time we do usually, so we just started letting it go. Then one day I stopped and looked around. Now I don't dare touch it. There are so many critters, birds, pollinators and such thriving back there. It provides a home and shelter to so many living things and I enjoy it just as much as my gardens. My animals love it and it gives them something to explore. Before gardening I didn't pay attention to these little things in life. What I once thought was an eyesore shows me beauty I didn't know existed!

Pictures usually don't do a garden justice but in my current situation they actually allow you to see some of the pretty without being distracted by all the ugly on the way to get to them! I am grateful to have what I still do, even if it is mixed in a jungle of weeds.
My dahlias were not tagged and I have no idea yet what all has survived the brutal spring so each day is a surprise. There is still a lot out there for the pollinators and many flowers yet to come.
Although things did not go my way this year, I still have a lot to look forward to this season.
