In E. Robert Dunn's Echelon's End, Book 13: Eclipse, the Aidennian crew was sleeping fitfully. In their dreams, the ghostly image of a deceased crewmember torments—accusing them of having abandoned him. During an away mission the crew make first contact with the Fila who try to sabotage the shuttle del Sol’s life support system with high radiation weapons, they need the raw energy contained within and hope to detonate it to feed. The podship undergoes problems with its propulsion system. Repairs not accomplished in Space needed, a habitable moon detected nearby; Capel takes the podship to investigate a suitable place to land. Upon emerging from the Pioneer 4, a wild beast ambushes the crew; killing it in self-defense gets the Aidennians accused of trespassing on private property – they then have to prove their value against the hunting preserve’s proprietor.

In E. Robert Dunn's Echelon's End's Book 12: The Road Yet Traveled, on the other side of a treacherous nebula trek, a well-needed shore leave on the planet Gaesia not only gives the crew some well-needed R&R, but also additions to their crew. While the crew await the arrival of the first children born to the Pioneer 4, the crew reviews recent events that had placed them on Gaesia: On the planet Sacha, the Kor’Ey people had provided the Pioneer 4 with a respite; a landing attempt on a habitable planet was in direct violation of the xenophobic Sylla, a point made obvious by their insecta army; the crew collected silicate from a comet in the Solal region, introducing them to the cybernetic Ho’Rris who tried to conscript Pioneer 4’s automaton crewmate BeeTee into their battlesphere crew. All of it a journey into the unknown.
