My daughter asked me today, "Will Bailey be here when I'm in high school?" 🥺

I didn't know what to say. He was here before she was born. He was the reason she wasn't scared of dogs, the one who let her use him as a pillow during every thunderstorm, the one who "read" bedtime stories with her even though he definitely didn't understand a word.

I told her the truth: "I don't know, baby. But I know he loves you with everything he has, every single day he's here."

She hugged him a little tighter after that. He just leaned into her, tail going, like he understood exactly what she needed in that moment. 🧡🐾

Some dogs don't just live in your house. They grow up your children. And that's a love you never really get over.

Drop a 🐾 if your dog helped raise your kids too.

The vet sat down next to us instead of standing across the room. That's how you know. 🩺🧡
Bailey's been slowing down for a while now. We knew this appointment was coming. What we didn't expect was how he would be the calm one — leaning into us like he already understood, like he was the one comforting us instead of the other way around.
We don't have a scary update to share. Just more good days ahead, managed a little more carefully now. More vitamins in his bowl. More gentle walks instead of long runs. More afternoons on the couch that we used to take for granted.
Nine years of loyalty doesn't come with an expiration date we get to choose. So we're choosing to be grateful for every single day we still get with him. 🐾💛
Drop a 🧡 if you've ever sat in that vet room holding your dog a little tighter.

The vet said last spring he might not make it to another winter. 🥹❄️
We didn't tell the kids that. We just started taking more pictures. More walks. More lazy Sunday mornings where we let him sleep in our bed even though we said we never would.
And then the first snow came. And Bailey — nine years old, gray around the muzzle, slower than he used to be — ran straight into that snowbank like he was a puppy again. Tail going a mile a minute. Like he knew exactly how much this moment mattered.
He's still here. Still wagging. Still teaching us that every single ordinary day is actually something to celebrate. ❄️🧡
Drop a ❄️ if you've ever been given "one more season" with a dog you love.

He knew before I even told him. 💔
The morning of my surgery, I packed my hospital bag and set it by the door. Bailey wouldn't leave it alone. Just laid right next to it, watching me, like he understood something was different about that day.
Dogs don't need words. They read us in ways we don't even understand ourselves — a shift in energy, a change in routine, a fear we haven't said out loud yet. Bailey stayed glued to my side that whole morning, like he was trying to tell me I've got you. Whatever happens, I've got you.
I came home three days later. He didn't leave my side for a week. 🧡🐾
Drop a 🙏 if your dog has ever known something was wrong before you told them.

He still waits by that leash every single morning. 🐾
Bailey's almost 10 now. His walks are shorter. His pace is slower. Some mornings his back legs shake a little before he gets going. But he still sits right there under his leash every single day, like it's the best part of waking up.
The vet mentioned his hips aren't what they used to be. We know what that means, eventually. But right now, today, he's still here — still choosing to greet every single morning like it's a gift.
So we clip on that leash. We walk a little slower now. And we say thank you, every single time, for one more walk with him. 🧡🐕
Drop a 🙏 if you've ever loved a senior dog who taught you to slow down and cherish it all.

That ball is older than some of our furniture. 🎾
Nine years. That's how long Bailey has had this same tennis ball — chewed down, faded, barely round anymore. We've tried replacing it a dozen times. He always finds his way back to this one.
He's slower now. Doesn't run to the fence like he used to. Takes a second longer to get up. But he still brings that ball to me every single afternoon, sets it down gently, and waits — like he's saying "one more throw, just one more."
We don't know how many afternoons like this we have left with him. So we throw the ball. Every time. As many times as he wants. 🥹🧡
Drop a 🎾 if your senior dog still has that one toy they'll never give up.

Every single evening. Same time. Same spot. 🚗🐾

The second he hears that garage door start to creak, Bailey is already at the end of the driveway before we've even pulled in. Doesn't matter if it rained, doesn't matter if he was sound asleep two minutes ago — the moment he hears that sound, he knows, and he's out there waiting like it's the best moment of his whole day.
My husband lost his job last year. Some days were hard. Some days neither of us felt like getting out of the car. But Bailey never once cared what kind of day we had — he was always there, tail going, like we were the best thing that ever happened to him.
Dogs don't love us for what we have. They love us just for coming home. 🧡
Drop a 🐾 if your dog waits for you like this too.

He's been sitting by that bowl since 6am. 🥺
Every single day, Bailey waits by the kitchen door — not because he's hungry, but because that's his spot for when someone he loves finally walks back in. Three years ago we almost lost him. The vet said it was 50/50. He fought through it, and now every meal, every walk, every "good boy" is a reminder that he's still here, still waiting for us, still loving us the exact same way even on our worst days.
Some love doesn't need words. It just waits by the door. 🐾💛
Drop a 🧡 if you have a Bailey of your own waiting for you right now.
