Monking it out!

Over here with these rhythms of wiping counters, feeding people and folding laundry. These are not glamorous activities. Necessary, but they do not get applause.

Of course it’s way more appealing to do something else. Really anything. But the toilets are always calling along with the cat wanting to be fed every morning.

We had only three kids for almost five years. We added one tiny human and went up like 50 loads of laundry a week 🤣

But for reals it’s been an adjustment to say the least! But this is where I talk to Him. Where I hear Him calling me over. Come fold this and talk to Me and listen to what I want to say. Peaceful and mundane. These are the rhythms that keep me in sinc with Him.

In the past I have run from quiet and boring and I have missed these moments of us. I only get one day like this a week right now. One sweet morning with this pile calling me to the monastic! Thankful for His call to come away today!

I have had quite a few big T trials in my life. But I also have noticed how often we have these trials of many kinds or little t trials. Or even the Greek work means temptations. But let’s focus on trials. Your van breaks down or the AC doesn’t work when you wait in the pick up line for school. Or one kid gets sick and thus begins a continual sickness in your home for a month. Even somethings that are as small as the phone call you need to make or a return you need to take to the post office. And with these little t trials you can guarantee the minute you check off one you will get the next one in the mail. They are never ending.

I woke up this morning hearing “be slow to speak, quick to listen!” I knew it was about listening to my children.

Now that we have four I am navigating the waters of trying to tune into any one conversation. Let’s be honest I am sleep deprived and treading water.

In the midst of it God is still challenging me. Listen Michelle, listen to them. Hear their hearts. Ugh, it’s so hard sometimes to just stop and pause for their whole story.

But soon I will blink and my oldest will be taller than me. I already feel it even though he is 9, but it seems like a minute ago I was nursing him to sleep.

So let’s be quick. 👂👂👂

I’m usually quick to defend, speak my own thoughts on a topic, explain myself, to control, to lead, to demand.

Quick to listen. Quick to hear. Quick to love. Quick to be present. Lord help me to do it.
