We feature photographer Greg Rhein in our 16th Annual Photography Issue.

“My passion for photography has translated into a balance of how I need to live and how I want to live. I document, I distort light and time. I create memories. I like to think I make people happy.”

Enjoy the beautiful photography of Victoria Westphal in our 16th Annual Photography Issue.

“What inspires me about photography is the adventures and discovery it takes me on. I’m happy to get up at 4.45 to watch the sun rise, morning shadows, tranquil waters, and the hustle of nature as it wakes and begins its day. It demands I be in the moment and challenges me to capture that instant to share. From the small insects in the flowers, to the grand views discovered when a new corner is turned, the world offers us so much if only we take the time to slow down, open our senses and notice it.”

Light infused energy sweeps you off your feet when you walk into Atelier Van Houten, the former home of artist/designer Fritz Krieger. Using daylight as his muse, Krieger redesigned and dramatically reconstructed the 19th century house, drawing our gaze towards the invigorating Panorama of the Hudson River. Visit this beautiful home where artistic inspiration flourishes in our current issue.

What could be dreamier than the rhythmic pulse of waves, ocean-side at an iconic Victorian beauty on the bluffs of coastal Rhode Island.

In our current issue, we visit the Ocean House and experience a nearby 3500-acre activity-rich sporting community at The Preserve at Boulder Hills, melding the best of two worlds.

Welcome to the August/September issue at www.thehook.org
Summer ripens into full force as I write this with uncountable shades of opulent greens. In our 16th annual photography edition we highlight visuals that share and create emotions giving introspection on the beauty of life.
Get HOOKed into Roost restaurant, a best and favorite for Rockland County and editor’s choice in their new locale around the block bringing richness to its ambiance.
For the wanderlust, travel more locally to an iconic oceanside Victorian in Rhode Island, as well as a nearby Preserve with a myriad of fun activity offerings for everyone. And, with mint in abundance in the garden, a super easy, mouth watering strawberry, mint parfait recipe is just the thing for summertime. View special places in “Into the Woods” from our readers of a few of their favorite hiking locales.
We depend on honeybees and other insects for 60% of our food — read about a call to support our ecosystem and the pleasures of its exploration. Transparency of air quality, especially now, is of high importance, not only in our agricultural centers, but our local communities and read what you can do about it. Then, see the beauty of an artist’s studio along the banks of the Hudson River.

Last fall, photographer Nick Zungoli drove 200 miles along Spain’s North Atlantic coast from San Sebastián to Ribadeo. He encountered an extraordinary coastline flanked by steep mountains, cathedral like sea-sculpted rock formations, sandy coves and medieval fishing villages. Explore the beauty and delights in our 16th Annual Travel Issue.
