NEW RECORDING AND PUBLISHING DEAL GUIDELINES

“1. The artist owns the coright in the recordings and songs and leases them to the record label / publisher for a limited term. 1 year deals”

“2. The record label / publisher is a service provider that receives a share of the income for a limited term. The split can be 80/20 in the artists favor”

“3. DEPENDANTS: Artists must be dependent on no one but themselves to manage their catalog. You should need NO ONE else to understand the business you’re in.”

“4. LAWYERS: The first thing that changes about Record Deals is actually lawyers. We need Plain English contracts. A Lawyers role is to IMPROVE deals…. not charge for contracts we cannot understand or track. Re-write deals to be understandable from FIRST READ.”

“5. EQUITY & BLANKET LICENSES ARE THE MAJORITY OF FUTURE NEW INCOME. If you’re with a major you have invested your ‘songs’ as shares in their power to get equity and deals. Almost ALL new deals now are based on ALL songs going to a store or app. The equity is the Artists. NO MORE blanket licenses. It should be clear from day one… what shares you get NOW and when you leave. If your song helps a deal over the line you invested in that store / app same as they did. UMG now has a 2.2 billion share holding stake in Spotify. This is the artists. The system as to how we get share balances on our royalty statement needs to be created and a system on when Artists can cash in.”

Hearing Megan Thee Stallion on one of those famous DJ radio shows a few years ago. She rode the beat like I’d never heard anybody ride the beat in a long time—and I’m a hip-hop head. There was something about this woman. Once you discover her, you become a fan. I don’t like to put the stigma of the word strong on Black women because I think it dehumanizes us, but she has strength—strength through vulnerability. She’s lost much of her family—her mother, her father, her grandmother—yet she is the epitome of tenacity, of pulling herself up by her bootstraps. She was shot this summer, and still people tried to tear her down. But she’s out here still loving and being sweet. It’s invigorating to see her become a platinum-selling artist with the viral hit “Hot Girl Summer” and multiple No. 1 songs in the past year, “Savage” and “WAP.” But you would be a fool to think that’s all there is to her. She’s deep. She’s enrolled in college. She’s an entertainer. She’s a free spirit; I see that in her. The industry might try to pigeonhole her in this rap game, but she’s got a plan that’s much bigger. And we got her. I just want her to keep winning.

Ray Charles Robinson
(September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer. Among friends and fellow musicians he preferred being called "Brother Ray." He was often referred to as "The Genius."[3][4] Charles was blinded during childhood due to glaucoma.[2]

Charles pioneered the soul music genre during the 1950s by combining blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, and gospel styles into the music he recorded for Atlantic.[2][5][6] He contributed to the integration of country music, rhythm and blues, and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, notably with his two Modern Sounds albums.[7][8][9] While he was with ABC, Charles became one of the first black musicians to be granted artistic control by a mainstream record company.

James H. Conyers

The U. S. Naval Academy was established in 1845 by an Act of Congress. Yet, 104 years would pass before the first black would complete the four-year curriculum and be commissioned. By 1965, there were still only nine blacks in the 4,100-man Brigade. But, today, the picture is changing.

In 1872, James H. Conyers, a 16-year-old black from South Carolina, reported to the Naval Academy where hazing—degrading or humiliating acts of physical contact with intent to do bodily harm to first-year students—had grown to very deplorable proportions. He had been appointed by a black Congressman, R. B. Elliott, and he resigned on 11 November 1873. He created a considerable uproar upon his arrival and remained the center of attention throughout his stay. He was reasonably well protected from the hazing, but managed to get into trouble on numerous occasions.

As the result of court-martial actions he was dismissed several times, but each time he was restored to duty by the Secretary of the Navy, who was not convinced that Conyers had received just treatment by his superiors. According to Admiral Robley D. Evans, the “boy was really unbearable” and the Academy was not prepared to cope with a Negro midshipman, even if he had been a model of deportment. Conyers finally consented to resign after being found deficient in his studies.

What’s the definition of a snitch?

What's the audience understands it, the public, the world understands it, but they’ll paint it like 'this guy’s a snitch.' But what’s the definition of a snitch? I feel like the definition of a snitch and definition of a rat is telling on your friends,” 6ix9ine said.

He knows his life is in danger and has eight bodyguards with him at all times. But he says that's to give him the freedom to live his life, and no matter what people say, they can't stop him or break him.

Minaj created the new song, “Sorry,” with recording artist Nasir Bin Olu in 2017. At the time, she believed it was a remake of a song created by Shelly Thunder, and was surprised to discover later that most of the lyrics and some of the melody came from Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You,” which was released on her debut album in 1988.

Minaj’s representatives reached out to Chapman for permission to use the song, but Chapman repeatedly refused. According to her suit, she has a blanket policy against granting such permission. “Sorry” was then dropped from Minaj’s 2018 album, “Queen.”

However, a copy of the unreleased track made its way to DJ Flex, a New York radio DJ who played it on the air. Chapman has accused Minaj of providing DJ Flex with the song, but they both have denied that it came from Minaj or her authorized representatives. Portions of the song later aired on “The Breakfast Club,” and the track became widely available online.
