Recent shoot at Artichoke: Interlock Media from Cambridge came to Artichoke to shoot interviews for "Safe Sets". It is a given that the film industry suffers from a culture of overworked hours and dangerous conditions...sometimes leading to people being hurt, or even killed. Dr. Paul Heinzelmann interviewed the interviewees including Laura Barger (sleep deprivation expert from Harvard Medical School), Doug Freeman (Production Designer), Lisa Cohen (Stuntwoman and Actress), Kim Estes (Actor), Mike Martinez (Stuntman, Stunt Coordinator, Actor), and Mark Bosia (Set Medic and Actor). Directed by Jonathan Schwartz. DP was Artichoke's Paul Kalbach. Thanks to the great crew that came together to make this shoot possible!

Our Story

Artichoke is a full service facility specializing in Red Digital Cinema production and post- production. Our primary camera system is centered around the Red Helium 8K for the highest in quality. Our stage is Green Screen oriented, and we have a ton of equipment available for rent. Owner/founder Paul Kalbach is highly experienced in features, international documentaries, commercials, music video, and corporate video. When Laney College in Oakland asked Paul to create a class in 4K Production for their Media-Communications Department, he created a curriculum and secured funding for the department to acquire two Red Scarlet camera packages for his students to use in his Red Digital Cinematography class. Artichoke recently added a new service to their offerings; Motion Control. An eMotimo Spectrum ST4 integrated with a Dana Dolly performs simultaneous camera pan, tilt, focus, and dolly moves, repeatable with pixel accuracy. Controlling the system with Dragonframe software allows for infinite fine-tuning of all aspects of the moves. Dragonframe is the same software that has been used in creating several major feature films, such as “Isle of Dogs”.
