Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across Iowa and parts of Illinois, where some areas could see up to a foot of snow this weekend. Winter Weather Advisories stretch from Illinois through Indiana and into northwest Ohio, with the potential for 3 to 8 inches of snowfall.

Winter is showing her ugly face early this year!

I’ll be providing more updates tomorrow.

Watching lake-effect snow again this morning as Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across the U.P. and northern Michigan, along with Winter Weather Advisories along the western coastlines of Michigan. Some of this lake-effect snow is even making its way into northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.

Travel across the U.P. especially in areas under warnings could be hazardous as heavy snow continues. If you’re traveling, make sure you take it slow and give yourself extra time.

I’ll have more updates throughout the day.

I’m seeing 34,383 customers without power in Wisconsin, 27,483 in Michigan, 9,461 in Ohio, and 7,334 in Indiana all due to the high winds moving through the region.

Today we’re watching the western shoreline of Michigan closely especially the southwest corner as high winds and lake-effect snow could create blizzard-like conditions. If you’re traveling for the holidays and your route takes you through western Michigan, make sure you have a plan. Travel could be hazardous throughout the day.

HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS TODAY!
High winds will be a major issue across northern Ohio and northern Indiana as a low-pressure system moves through, bringing wind gusts up to 55 mph. A heads-up for anyone baking or prepping for Thanksgiving power outages are possible throughout the day.

There is also a High-Profile Travel Ban in effect on the Ohio Turnpike starting at 8 AM today and lasting through 11:59 PM tomorrow. This applies to semi-truck drivers and anyone pulling high-profile trailers including campers, boats, mobile homes, and livestock trailers taller than 7 feet 6 inches or longer than 53 feet.

I’ll have updates throughout the day. Stay safe out there!

A High-Profile Travel Ban has been issued for the Ohio Turnpike from Wednesday at 8:00 AM through Thursday at 11:59 PM due to the strong winds moving in with this system.

This ban applies to any vehicle or trailer taller than 7 feet 6 inches or up to 53 feet long. This includes tall tow-behind trailers, campers, boats, semi-trucks pulling empty trailers, mobile homes, and camper trailers.

Officials say the ban will be reassessed as the storm develops and may be extended, shortened, or canceled depending on the severity of the conditions.

Watching this low-pressure system move through tonight into tomorrow. Snow and high winds will impact much of Michigan, especially tonight, Wednesday, and into Thursday. One area to watch closely is southwest Michigan and the western shoreline lake-effect snow combined with wind gusts up to 55 mph could create whiteout conditions and make holiday travel extremely tricky.

If you’re traveling for the holidays and weren’t able to leave tonight, plan ahead, allow extra time, and take it slow. Travel through this region could be a crawl, and conditions may become hazardous.

High winds will also be a big story across Indiana and Ohio. Northern Indiana and northern Ohio could see gusts between 45 and 50 mph, along with the potential for a few snow flurries especially closer to the lakes.

Behind this system, colder air pours in. Highs will only reach the upper 20s to low 30s on Thursday, making for a very cold Thanksgiving.

Make sure hot chocolate is on your menu if you live in the Midwest it’s going to be a chilly holiday!

Hope everyone is doing good! Just a little heads up I’m keeping a close eye on our next system moving in early next week.

Models are hinting at the possibility of snow and even some freezing rain on Monday. It’s still early, but this is definitely something worth watching.

We’ll have a much clearer picture as we get closer to the end of the week, and I’ll keep you all updated throughout the week !

🌩 Severe Weather Tuesday – Day 1 Convective Outlook (Lower Ohio Valley)
A Marginal Risk (Level 1/5) is in place today across the Lower Ohio Valley. Most storms will be elevated, but there is a non-zero tornado threat later today.

Here’s the quick breakdown:

🔹 Environment:
A strong upper-level trough is moving in, with a 60+ kt mid-level jet pushing across MO into southern IL/IN. This increases wind shear — one of the key ingredients for rotating storms.

🔹 Instability:
Surface heating will be limited, but instability should gradually increase through the afternoon as colder air aloft arrives.
📊 Forecast CAPE: 800–1000 J/kg (modest, but enough for November storms).

🔹 Storm Mode:
• Mainly elevated storms early
• Possible elevated supercells producing hail
• By late afternoon, some storms may become near-surface based
→ That’s when a low tornado risk enters the picture.

🔹 Main Concerns Today:
🌪 Isolated brief tornado possible late today
🌨 Hail — primary hazard
💨 Strong wind gusts possible with any stronger storms

This is not expected to be a major severe weather event, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on radar this afternoon and evening — especially across southern IL, southern IN, western KY, and southwest OH.

I’ll be watching updates throughout the day. Stay weather aware!
