Hi everyone!

To re-introduce ourselves, we are As I Am, Oberlin College’s literary and artistic collective and magazine that serves a platform for the creative expressions of Asians in America. Our mission is to resist primarily white artistic spaces on campus where our experiences are tokenized and undervalued, as well as foster an space of artistic community building for Oberlin Asian in America where we are constantly able to challenge ourselves and grow together. Naming ourselves as a collective and magazine for “Asians in America” is intentional, recognizing the broadness of Oberlin’s Asian diasporic community: American-born, immigrants, and international; as well as coming from East Asian, South-East Asian, South Asian, and Pacific Islander communities. As I Am rejects terms or ideas that flatten the diversity of the Asian diaspora, but recognizes the shared and disparate experiences we have as Asians in America.

WE WILL BE AT THE VIRTUAL CONNECTIONS FAIR from 4:30 - 6:00 PM/EST, answering questions, and going into more depth about who we are, what we do throughout the semester as an org.

Happy Spring Semester! Our submissions are now open for the Spring 2020 issue of As I Am! We take any form of art: poetry, prose, photography, or visual art, music, film, etc. If you want to submit a film or music, we can include it with a QR code! We also take submissions in any language!

The deadline for submissions is APRIL 4th!

Please email any submissions to [email protected] and include name, pronouns, year, and medium!

HELLO!! The deadline to submit to AS I AM was yesterday however............ lucky for YOU...... we extended the deadline!!!! OUR NEW DEADLINE IS APRIL 16TH, 2019!!!! 😱 THANK GOD am I right?!?! This means YOU better submit to AS I AM!!! Yes, you!!!!!! Our theme is passion and love but we will accept most likely ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! We take prose, poetry, photography, collage, video, film, YOU GET THE GIST! 🤩 Everyone say THANK YOU AS I AM staff!!!
