Horse people say it all the time. And for many of us, it’s true.

But increasingly, science suggests our horses may be paying far closer attention to our stress, anxiety, fear—and even our ambition—than we realize.

Researchers have found that horses can distinguish human emotional expressions, integrate cues from our faces and voices, and show measurable physiological and behavioral responses to human emotion.

So if the barn is where we go to regulate ourselves…

what does that make the horse?

And for those of us who compete: what happens when we add pressure, expectations and the desperate desire for a good result?
