My son and I were in a “high energy rear end collision”.
For those new around here my son is minimally to non verbal autistic. The impact was directly behind him.
When paramedics tried to examine him he screamed.
When his dad arrived on scene and attempted to get him transferred to our other car… he screamed.
The amount of uncertainty, questions, concerns as a parent that I have about his well being is so loud my ears hurt. Because this reaction for him is not normal. And when they can’t tell you what is wrong? All you are left to do is wonder.
How do you advocate for their care if they can’t tell you? That’s been our biggest challenge with his language ability and our top focus.
Unfortunately being a stay at home mom to a special needs child means we really can’t go without a second car. He’s got therapies, appointments, school that all require transportation.
This in many ways is devastating for us.
I don’t have much to update as of now because it’s still so fresh. But it’s a statement that I wanted to share to just give some insight on what autism parenting looks like in everyday life situations.
