Please explain to your child that their safety is very important to us and that is why we have canceled our summer programs.

Oconto Copper Fest

To all Copperfest at the Park supporters:

A full committee meeting was held on Monday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. A discussion was held regarding the cancellation of the Copperfest at the Park with a motion and 2nd to cancel, A vote of 10-0 was carried out in favor of the cancellation of events at Copperfest Park and parade which would have been on June 5-7.

After reviewing the CDC regulations for outdoor events and recommendations from the City of Oconto, County law enforcement officials, Oconto County Health Department and the uncertainty of the Covid-19 virus made the decision more difficult. We are looking at the safety of everyone that would have attended. We will get through this pandemic and look at having Copperfest at the Park in 2021.

Flood Safety:

The following common sense guidelines can help you from the dangers of flooding:

Do not drive through a flooded area. More people drown in cars than anywhere else. Do not drive around barriers.

Do not walk through flowing water. Currents can be deceptive. Six (6) inches of water can knock you off your feet.

Stay away from power lines and electrical wires. If your house is about to be flooded, turn off the power at the service box. Electrical current can travel through the water. Electrocution is the second (2nd) leading cause of death during floods.

Be alert to gas leaks. Turn off the gas to your house before it floods. If you smell gas, report it to a Village official or your gas company. Do not use candles, lanterns, or open flames if you smell gas or are unsure if your gas has been shut off.

Keep children away from the flood waters, ditches, culverts, and storm drains. Flood waters can carry unimaginable items that have dislodged themselves. Culverts may suck smaller people into them, rendering them helpless.

Clean everything that has been wet. Flood water will be contaminated with sewage and other chemicals which pose severe health threats.

Do not use gas engines, such as generators, or charcoal fires indoors during power outages. Carbon monoxide exhaust can pose serious health hazards.

OCONTO, WI (April 22, 2020)—Oconto County Health Officer Debra Konitzer issued Health Officer Order #3 today, April 22, 2020. This is a revision of the April 8, 2020 Health Officer Order. Order #3 opens Oconto County owned boat landings with restrictions and takes effect on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 5:00 a.m.

“The COVID-19 public health emergency has required sacrifices from all of us and continues to be a challenging situation to adjust to,” stated Debra Konitzer, Oconto County Health Officer. “We share people’s concerns about COVID-19, and we also understand that outdoor activities like fishing are encouraged. It is important to enjoy fishing opportunities in waters close to home and to limit travel.”

The boat landings will open, however all public facilities that encourage social gathering of any number of people will be closed. The order states that boat landing users are expected to maintain social distancing guidelines of keeping six feet between themselves and others. Users are also expected to not gather with people who live outside of their household.

“Those using the boat landings are expected to take all precautions to avoid spreading COVID-19 and other diseases,” stated Konitzer. “We need people to follow the social distancing guidelines listed in the order. Frequent hand washing, or use of hand sanitizer, and wearing a cloth face mask are also important steps in stopping the spread.”

If these requirements are not met, the launches may be closed again. Failure to comply could result in a fine or criminal prosecution.
