This week’s shines on the city of Oglethorpe, GA! Incorporated in 1849, Oglethorpe is named after General James Oglethorpe, the founder of Georgia. Oglethorpe was once one of the largest cities in Georgia, with a population of around 20,000. It was called “the metropolis of the southeast” and was in line to be the capital of Georgia.

Now, Oglethorpe is a small agricultural town that values community and historical preservation.
