⸻
ITB: Azariah, first off, congratulations on your first high school volleyball season! How would you describe what this year has been like for you, stepping up from middle school to high school competition?
Azariah: This year has been great. I’ve improved a lot and worked really hard to get where I am now—and I’ll continue to work to improve my talent.
⸻
ITB: You’ve already built a reputation for playing with composure and confidence beyond your years. Where does that mindset and energy come from?
Azariah: My mindset for the game comes from the people who have helped me grow in the sport. Playing up in club ball when I was younger gave me an example and a certain expectation of what high school ball might be like.
⸻
ITB: What’s been the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your freshman season, both as an athlete and as a teammate?
Azariah: As an athlete and as a teammate, I’ve learned to encourage my teammates no matter what so that we can all play better as a team. Once the team is involved and in high spirits, we play better on the court.
⸻
ITB: Volleyball requires so much chemistry and communication. How has this year helped you grow in those areas—on and off the court?
Azariah: On the court, getting excited for every teammate helps us grow and build team chemistry, which increases our chances to win each set. Communication on and off the court has also helped me become a better leader in the community and the classroom.
⸻
ITB: Every great player has something that fuels them. What motivates you to keep improving and pushing yourself in the game?
Azariah: My teammates, my coaches, and definitely my parents motivate me and keep me going to be the best version of myself.
⸻
ITB: Looking ahead, what are your personal goals for next season and beyond? What do you hope people remember most when they hear the name Azariah Washington in Okeechobee volleyball?
Azariah: Personally, I want to have 300 kills for the 2026–2027 volleyball season. I also would like to achieve over one thousand kills in my high school career and help my team become District champs. What I want people to remember about me is that I am the best hitter in Florida.
