Out with the old and in with the new! Coop refresh I’m sorry day is upon us lol 😆

Created a compost pile from chicken waste materials.

Using deep litter method (starting fresh with new cedar shavings , pine shavings, stall dry, barn lime, and some h**p shavings. Oh and swapped the nesting box pads for some fresh ones.

Then after doing a deep sifting of our dirt/sand/pea gravel in the run area we added some new construction sand and mixed in more barn lime, and stall dry.

Last we added wood ashes to a spot that the hens frequently do their dust bathing while in the run.

Next go around I gotta breakout the pressure washer to get the walls and welded wire cleaned up really nice again.

So far the batch of soaking beans have created refried beans, which part will become bean dip, the other bit has become ham and bean soup.

Tomorrow we will make a chili with the rest. : )
