We got all fixed up Friday night to pick up some hardware. The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters honored Photojournalist Michael Blair and me with an award for our report on Black Vultures… a fascinating topic that I will likely cover more in the future. Blair and I met a number of wonderful, hard-working people in the process of putting this story together—cattle ranchers who want nothing more than to keep their herds safe from predators.
And as always Blair knocked it out of the park with his photography and editing skills.
My husband Matt… and Blair’s wife Erin were there to cheer us on. I think the spouses of news folks deserve an award for having to put up with our crazy hours and the fact that we spend a good majority of time at home talking about work… or flat out working!

Last night I was fortunate enough to win the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for Outstanding Achievement for Best Weathercast in 2021.
Looking at the previous winners, I have a looong way to go to get to their level! But I have no doubt with everyone’s support… I’ll get there!

Thanks for a thought-provoking writing refresh, Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters!! Al Tompkins and the team at Poynter always have great insight for storytellers.
It's been 1,603 days since Jaymeson Michael West, 16, took his life.
The tragedy broke hearts throughout Broken Arrow and across Green Country as news of his death quickly spread.
In January 2021, I sat down with Jaymeson's mom Shannon, for a special report on teen su***de. I admire how brave she was the day we met. I know how painful it was for her to recount the loss of her son. I vividly remember her saying to me, "He was skinny, skinny and tall, tall, tall and you could almost wrap your arms around him twice. I can't wait until the day I get to hug him again."
We both cried. I could feel her unconditional love for Jaymeson.
I learned today, the piece we titled "Teen Su***de In Oklahoma: A Mother’s Story" won an Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for feature reporting. (Story link in the comments)
It's always an honor to have your work recognized by your peers and this recognition means even more given the topic. I pray this piece saves lives. 💜
Thank you, Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters for the recognition!

It was great to meet with the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters yesterday in Washington.
I’m proud of these broadcasters who continually work hard to deliver national, state and local news to our fellow Oklahomans
