“My address says Yukon, my utilities are OKC, and my kids go to Mustang schools… so where do I actually live?”
If you've ever been confused about whether you live in Oklahoma City, Yukon, or Mustang, you're not alone. In southwest Oklahoma City, mailing addresses, school districts, and city limits don't always line up the way people expect.
A few ways to tell if you're inside Oklahoma City city limits:
🗑️ Check your trash cart. If you have a big blue trash can with the Oklahoma City seal on the side, you're receiving City of Oklahoma City sanitation service - a reliable indicator of what city you’re in.
🪧 Look at the street signs. Most public streets maintained by Oklahoma City have green street signs. (Keep in mind that some neighborhoods have private streets, which often use white signs instead.)
🏠 Check your address on Oklahoma City's Address Information Map. Enter your address and you'll see details about your property, including neighborhood information and city services (link in the comments).
One of the biggest sources of confusion is mailing addresses. Many homes in SW OKC have Yukon mailing addresses even though they are actually located within Oklahoma City city limits. Likewise, many SW OKC residents are served by Mustang, Yukon, Banner, Moore or Western Heights Public Schools.
Bottom line: your mailing address, school district, and city government can all be different things. When it comes to city services, elections, police, fire, roads, and utilities, city limits are what matter.
What city did you think you lived in when you first moved here?
