🚧 SW OKC Road Project Update #1 🚧

Over the next several days, we’ll be sharing updates obtained from OKC on major road projects happening across SW OKC.

Our first project is the widening of SW 29th Street between MacArthur Boulevard and Rockwell Avenue, which is currently under construction.

Here’s what we’ve seen happen so far:

✅ A pipeline has been relocated.
✅ Significant clearing and dirt work has taken place around the creek crossing beneath the roadway.
✅ On the south side of SW 29th, excavation has begun for the new lanes.
✅ Portions of curb and gutter have been poured.
✅ Stormwater drainage infrastructure has been installed in some areas.

The City’s current estimated completion date is the 1st Quarter of 2027.

As with most roadway widening projects, it’s important to remember that utility relocations and underground infrastructure can create unexpected delays. While progress may sometimes appear slow from the road, a lot of work often takes place behind the scenes before new pavement can be installed. Keeping that in mind can help reduce frustration as the project moves forward.

This is a major arterial roadway that serves residents, commuters, schools, large employers, and other high-traffic destinations in southwest Oklahoma City. Once completed, the additional capacity should improve traffic flow and help accommodate growth in the area.

Be sure to follow along as we share updates on additional infrastructure projects happening across SW OKC in the coming days! 👀

“My address says Yukon, my utilities are OKC, and my kids go to Mustang schools… so where do I actually live?”

If you've ever been confused about whether you live in Oklahoma City, Yukon, or Mustang, you're not alone. In southwest Oklahoma City, mailing addresses, school districts, and city limits don't always line up the way people expect.

A few ways to tell if you're inside Oklahoma City city limits:

🗑️ Check your trash cart. If you have a big blue trash can with the Oklahoma City seal on the side, you're receiving City of Oklahoma City sanitation service - a reliable indicator of what city you’re in.

🪧 Look at the street signs. Most public streets maintained by Oklahoma City have green street signs. (Keep in mind that some neighborhoods have private streets, which often use white signs instead.)

🏠 Check your address on Oklahoma City's Address Information Map. Enter your address and you'll see details about your property, including neighborhood information and city services (link in the comments).

One of the biggest sources of confusion is mailing addresses. Many homes in SW OKC have Yukon mailing addresses even though they are actually located within Oklahoma City city limits. Likewise, many SW OKC residents are served by Mustang, Yukon, Banner, Moore or Western Heights Public Schools.

Bottom line: your mailing address, school district, and city government can all be different things. When it comes to city services, elections, police, fire, roads, and utilities, city limits are what matter.

What city did you think you lived in when you first moved here?

🚧 SW OKC Road Project Update #7 🚧

Have you noticed all the construction barrels and signs along Cemetery Road between Reno Avenue and NW 10th Street?

They’re there for a reason. This roadway widening project was approved as part of the 2017 GO Bond Program and is expected to begin construction in mid-June.

Once completed, the project will improve capacity and connectivity along an important north-south corridor serving southwest Oklahoma City, the growing areas around it, and the Mustang community.

Looking ahead, the 2025 GO Bond projects include additional widening projects on Cemetery Road extending south all the way to SW 59th Street near the Mustang city limits. While those projects are still in the early stages and no construction updates are available yet, they represent a long-term investment in one of the area’s fastest-growing corridors.

GO Bond projects can be implemented over a period of several years, but as more of these roadway improvements come online, we’re beginning to see connected four-lane corridors and roadway loops emerge throughout SW OKC, improving traffic flow and connectivity across the area.

Keep an eye out for updates as we continue to keep an eye on infrastructure improvements happening across SW OKC!

🚧 SW OKC Road Project Update #6 🚧

Today's update is the widening of Czech Hall Road from Reno Avenue to SW 15th Street.

This project is part of the 2017 GO Bond Program and is one of the final major roadway projects from that bond package still awaiting construction.

According to Oklahoma City's latest project update, the construction contract is expected to be awarded in the 2nd Quarter of 2026. It's important to note that "award" does not mean construction will begin at that time. Awarding a project typically means the City has selected and approved a contractor. Construction often begins weeks or months later after contracts are finalized, materials are ordered, and mobilization occurs.

We wish Oklahoma City's latest update included a construction start date to share. We'll continue seeking updates from City staff and keep you informed as additional information becomes available.

This project will extend the existing four-lane roadway south from Reno Avenue, where Czech Hall Road currently narrows to two lanes. Once completed, it will provide a more continuous north-south corridor serving residents, commuters, and visitors traveling between southwest Oklahoma City and the growing commercial area near NW 10th Street and Czech Hall Road.

The project will also bring four lanes all the way to the recently widened intersection of SW 15th Street and Czech Hall Road. As more GO Bond projects are completed, we're beginning to see connected four-lane corridors and roadway loops emerge throughout southwest Oklahoma City, helping improve traffic flow and connectivity across the area.

Keep an eye out for our next project update as we continue highlighting infrastructure improvements happening across SW OKC!

🚧 SW OKC Road Project Update #5 🚧

Today's update is the resurfacing of SW 29th Street from Czech Hall Road to Mustang Road.

This project continues the improvements made through the 2017 GO Bond Program, which resurfaced approximately five miles of SW 29th Street immediately to the east. Once completed, this project will add another mile of smoother roadway along one of southwest Oklahoma City's most important east-west corridors.

Resurfacing is much needed on this stretch. The pavement has become increasingly rough, and several new residential developments are currently under construction in the area, bringing additional traffic to the corridor.

According to Oklahoma City's latest update, construction is expected to begin in July or August 2026. It's worth noting that this is the same estimated start timeframe currently shown for the resurfacing projects on County Line Road, SW 44th Street, and SW 15th Street. We'll continue monitoring these projects and sharing updates if schedules change.

SW 29th Street has been the focus of numerous GO Bond investments over the years, including both resurfacing and widening projects. These improvements continue to enhance one of the most heavily traveled roadways serving southwest Oklahoma City and the surrounding communities.

Keep an eye out for our next project update as we continue highlighting infrastructure improvements happening across SW OKC!

Hello Friends, Family, and Neighbors - I regularly hear people asking or confused by different mailing address, trash services, phone numbers, etc. I made an “unofficial” map of our “unofficial” districts to help people have a general sense of where we live in “Ward 3” of OKC.

A few fun facts about OKC Ward 3

💥By land area - we are comparable to a top 150 US City - WE COVER SOME GROUND ❤️. This can be very challenging but it also gives us amazing diversity of industries, housing, and culture.

💥By population - we are comparable to a top 400 US City - WE HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE 💯

What this really means! We are BIG and Burly AND Unique and Pretty - at the same time🙌. I think that means we are a “One-of-a-Kind”. 👏🙌👍 (I think there’s a 🎶).

A HUGE thank you to ALL of the people that continue to volunteer, keep a positive attitude, and help our community!!! I really appreciate the smart questions, professionalism, and kindness that continues to be showcased in so many different situations - my email inbox is always full and my meeting calendar stays booked from 4 am to midnight. ⏰⏰⏰. If you can start hashtagging it will help us stuff better ❤️

🚧 SW OKC Road Project Update #4 🚧

Today's update covers two related 2017 GO Bond projects along SW 59th Street between County Line Road and State Highway 152:

• Widening of SW 59th Street from County Line Road to State Highway 152
• Drainage improvements near SW 59th Street and County Line Road

According to Oklahoma City's latest project update, the SW 59th widening project is expected to be awarded in the 3rd Quarter of 2026.

Keep an eye out for our next project update as we continue highlighting infrastructure improvements happening across SW OKC!
