 FATAL ACCIDENT - Mary J. Mcgoldrick, 52, of Tulsa died at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 in a single-vehicle crash two-tenths of a mile north of Happy Camp Road on Alternative Hwy. 75. Her 2000 Jaguar 4-door sedan ran off the road at a high rate of speed in the accident. An Okmulgee County deputy inspects the damage of the fatal crash.

Charity Trail Ride Begins Friday
Rodney Summers, Leading Knight of the Okmulgee Elk's Lodge presented a $500 check to representatives from the Charity Trail Ride. Pictured with Rodney are Ynona Burdine-Bell, John Bell, and Duke, a mounted deputy. Sitting on Duke is Sara Grammer, a Twin Hills Student. Sara stated during the meeting that her eyes had been tested during the past week by Prevent Blindness. This year’s trail ride will be held at Okmulgee Lake, September 24 – 26. In years past, they have had from 130 to 200 riders participate in the event, some coming from as far away as Ohio.

RED RIVER RIVALRY, Okmulgee style -
The annual showdown between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas will be staged Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Two Okmulgee Primary School students came to class Friday showing their respective loyalties. Carson Moudy is sporting a shirt for the OU Sooners. He's ready to 'fight' with Texas Longhorn fan Johnathan Wood. Luckily, the contest will be settled on the field. ABC is showing the action at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on channel 9. OHS SHOWPIECE SHINES - The Okmulgee High School ‘Showpiece’ marching band was sensational in last weekend’s Oologah Band Contest.
OHS band director Sean O’Brien led The Pride of Okmulgee to major honors in the Class 4A division competition. Okmulgee also stepped up and won incredible honors in the overall contest Saturday night. The contest spotlights the marching band, color guard unit, and rates the Drum Majors from each school.

DONNA PERRY HONORED - Donna Perry of Okmulgee was recently named to Oklahoma’s Advisory Task Force on Child Abuse & Neglect. She has been a Court Appointed Special Advocate since 1997 and will make a great addition to the task force. Ms. Perry is a member of the Post Adjudication Review Board and was honored with the Lela Roddy Special Recognition award in 2004 from the Oklahoma CASA Association. Ms. Perry is a member of the Corporate Board for the Okmulgee County Family Resource Center, Inc. the Art and Literature Club, Chapter Z PEO and Beta Sigma Phi.

OHS BAND COURT - Okmulgee High School’s royal court was honoored Friday evening at the annual Band Queen Coronation event this evening at Harmon Field. OHS senior Sarah Buell was elected Queen for 2010. She was escored by Tielor Han. The band’s royal court includes Freshman Kristen Brown, Sophomore Mariah Bustamonte, Junior Alecia Brooks, Senior Mary Adams and Queen Sarah Buell; and escorts: Saveon Johnson, Alex Mitchell, Ryan Smith, Aaron Sanders, and Tielor Han. FATAL ACCIDENTS - A 56-year-old Okmulgee woman, Elizabeth Thomas, was killed in a one-vehicle accident Sunday night south of Okmulgee. The crash happened on Banyan Road at the intersection of county road 250. The vehicle exited the roadway and struck a tree head-on. The 19-year-old driver escaped with minor injuries.
